Since our last visit to this magnificant hotel, there has been a terrible refurbishment of the public areas. From what was a typical Provencale relaxed chic style, it now it sports hideous black and white/chenille flocked sofas. The view from terrace is still worth a cocktail but we couldn't bring ourselves to walk past these monstrosities.

Yes, it is expensive ... but really worth it. Since you are ready to spend that much, go for a superior room with view on the valley. The hotel is beautiful, the staff is perfect, the restaurant is excellent, ... just great. Better to avoid the high season or the long week-ends when Gordes is over-crowded.
