The rooms are basic but clean. The shower was poor, no pressure and needs to be improved. The breakfast is not worth the €12, I’d recommend going elsewhere. The location is perfect, minutes from transport links and walking distance to all the restaurants and attractions Nice has to offer. The young man on reception is worth his weight in gold. He went out of his way to ensure we had a good break, he recommended where to go and helped us explore the wider area. The location and staff make this hotel worth the visit.

Have stayed here previously on 2 occasions. Just several minutes walk to the Port and/or Old Town. Very friendly staff and an exceptional location, minutes from public transport links to the Airport. Once again, did not have Breakfast there, as 12 EURO pp, was very expensive, considering the numerous eateries just around the corner. Would definitely stay there again, though.

I didn't sleep. Not only is the hotel outdated with tired brown carpets, hallway ceiling tiles that have mould on them, and the need to leave your room key at reception when you go out, the bed was also one of the most uncomfortable I've slept on, ever. I couldn't find a single bit that didn't feel like sleeping on the floor. We received only one pillow per person, so had to ask for more. The rooms are small, and a squeeze with two suitcases. But they are well air-conditioned and the bathrooms stand out as more modern than the rest of the hotel. If you are close to the stairs or lift, you can hear people using it throughout the night, which will undoubtedly wake you up. The good things are: - Staff are lovely, the highlight of the hotel tbh. - very well located and everything is a short 15 min walk. - air conditioning.

Response from Quentin Jouanneau-Courville, Propriétaire at Hotel Esprit d'Azur
Responded Dec 13, 2023
Dear Toni May S, We deeply regret that your experience at our hotel did not meet your expectations. Customer satisfaction is of utmost importance to us, and we are dedicated to making continuous improvements to enhance the overall guest experience. It saddens us to hear that we fell short of our goals during your stay in Nice. It is essential to note that we operate as a small, family-run hotel in the heart of the city, and we strive to provide the best possible service within the constraints of our resources. Your mention of the carpets and false ceiling tiles in our corridors has been duly noted. While these were recently replaced, we encountered challenges with water leaks affecting our air-conditioning system, causing considerable damage to the corridors. Despite these setbacks, we have implemented solutions to maintain the smooth operation of our air-conditioning system without causing disruptions to our guests. Renovations are scheduled during our annual shutdown in January to address the remaining issues. I have made efforts to identify the specific room you occupied, but regrettably, I couldn't locate this information. It would be greatly appreciated if you could contact us with these details. Managing every aspect can be challenging, but we are committed to ensuring a good quality of sleep for our guests. If a mattress is deemed uncomfortable, we will promptly replace it, as we always have a stock of new ones available. Our commitment to honesty and transparency is reflected in our hotel, which may be simple but is dedicated to providing quality service while preserving authenticity and traditional values. We choose to uphold the charm of manual key systems, favoring a more personal and nostalgic approach. While this decision ensures daily interactions with our guests, it does pose challenges, such as the need to change locks in the event of lost keys. We appreciate your feedback and would be pleased to discuss any further details with you. It is our sincere hope that you might reconsider and grant us the opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Best regards, Quentin

I am still wondering how this hotel is so well rated. People have different expectations!!! For me it is a 2 star hotel if any. The quality of the bed/mattress and shower room were good but that was all! The bedroom is very small and very outdated. In fact the hotel is all very outdated. There is a lot of photoshop in the pictures.

Dear HelderManuelsilva, I regret to learn that your stay with us fell short of your expectations. We genuinely strive to provide a positive experience for all our guests, and your feedback is valuable in our continuous efforts to enhance our services. I want to express our gratitude for taking the time to share your thoughts. As a small, family-operated hotel, we acknowledge that we may not boast perfection or avant-garde aesthetics suitable for social media trends. Our primary focus is on delivering high-quality service and genuine support, preserving the authenticity of an independently run establishment rooted in traditional hospitality. Operating within our means, which are admittedly limited, we are transparent about our room sizes and the imperfections that may exist. Our ethos revolves around honesty, and we do not aspire to present ourselves as something we are not. We pride ourselves on offering one of the most cost-effective options in the area, particularly given our central location, as echoed by numerous positive reviews. While we continually strive for improvement year after year, progress takes time. I am pleased to share that we have recently undergone a rigorous evaluation and received a 3-star certification, valid for the next 5 years. This certification focuses on safety, cleanliness, and the provision of essential services. While it does not evaluate aesthetics, we leave it to our guests to assess the overall experience. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work towards making our hotel even better. Your insights contribute to our journey of enhancement, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future, providing an improved and more satisfying stay. Best regards, Quentin

We had a wonderful 3 night stay here at the end of August. The rooms were clean and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It’s location is great for walking to Old Nice, and to the trains if planning to go to Monte Carlo, Cannes, etc. The room was on the smaller side, but we didn’t spend much time in it anyway, as there are countless things to do and places to explore. Definitely ask the staff for recommendations! I would 100% stay here again, you can’t go wrong with this hotel!

I visited this hotel with some family because we were planning on going up the Turini to scatter a relative's ashes. We were unsure how to get up there and asked for some advice at reception, and Quentin couldn't have been more helpful. He really went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable and arranged a driver to help us with this delicate request, who wouldn't rip us off. Thanks to him, the trip ran smoothly and we were accommodated with any enquiries or help we needed. The hotel itself is also charming, the rooms were clean and comfortable and were attended to daily. Breakfast is included and serves a standard continental breakfast. It's worth mentioning the lift is very small, and only fits 3 people, so be prepared for that if you are travelling in a group with lots of luggage. The location is excellent, round the corner from a convenience supermarket and near to tram lines, with the old town only a 15 minute walk away. If you have any extra requirements, or are simply looking for an affordable, nice Nice hotel, I would highly recommend this place.

I’ve had this hotel booked through ebookers for about a year, due to arrive on 29/06 for 7 nights with the arrangement on ebookers for the reservation to be paid on arrival. I got an email from the hotel on 12/06/23 saying they tried to take the first night’s payment via credit card (to then take that payment should I cancel within 2 days of arrival) I went to reply on 13/06/23 to then find my booking has been cancelled. There was no mention of this consequence in the email they sent the previous day. See the hotel’s reply below to me asking why they cancelled my booking. In addition, when I then contacted ebookers asking who cancelled the booking, they said I did! Nothing about first night hold payment when I booked and the hotel cancel within 1 day of making contact! I’m now left to arrange other accommodation, at higher cost with less than 2 weeks to our arrival

Responded Dec 13, 2023
Dear David, I sincerely extend my apologies for the unfavorable experience you encountered. Naturally, we would have preferred a more positive outcome and the opportunity to warmly welcome you to our family-owned hotel. As discussed previously, our intention in processing your card was not to charge it but to secure an imprint for validation purposes, ensuring that your account had sufficient funds. This measure is in place to manage potential charges in the event of a late cancellation, providing a safeguard for both parties involved. Regrettably, your reservation coincided with a crucial period for us, booked well in advance with a card that returned as invalid. Regrettably, we misinterpreted this as an indication of your non-arrival, which was an oversight on our part. However, in the context of our small business, we erred on the side of caution to avoid any complications. Upon your prompt communication following the cancellation notice, I took immediate action to secure a room for you under the same terms and pricing as your initial reservation. Mistakes happen, and I believe it is crucial to take every possible measure to rectify them. Our commitment is to deliver excellent service, and I genuinely regret any inconvenience caused. I sincerely hope for the opportunity to welcome you. Your satisfaction is paramount to us, and I remain hopeful that we can turn this experience around. Kind regards, Quentin

We, a group, stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. This is one of the nicest 3 star hotels I have ever stayed in. Perfect location to explore city. Easy access from the airport with a tram line . 700 meters from Riquier train station, so easy access to Monaco, Cannes, Willefrance-sur-Mer. Quentin and other staff helped with useful information to explore Nice and different surrounding places. Near to grocery stores. Excellent service, they clean rooms every day. In our room we had a big balcony with a table and two chairs. Fabulous breakfast. Before booking this hotel I have read reviews and in one it was said: "If you are looking for the best 3 star hotel in Nice then it is not necessary to go further. This is the place". Now I can share this feeling.
