When the taxi driver pointed to the Peugeot showroom from the highway and said something in very fast French, which I understood as we have arrived, I was quiet surprised. All I could see was an industrial area. Then we turned in to tree lined driveway and shortly the landscape changed. I felt like it would have been more appropriate... more

We chose this hotel as it appeared to be the closest to Aix TGV station from where I had to catch the TGV to London the next morning. As other reviewers note, it is very difficult to find. The best landmark is that it is immediately adjacent to a filling station in the main street of the area. The chateaux... more

It is what you would expect from a 'chateau'. Rooms are not like typical modern hotels. If you are used to the chain hotels this is not for you. The room was very spacious and ours was set in a wing of the building with our door to the room accessed from outside - this meant it was very quiet.... more

The Chateau de la Pioline is unquestionably a stunning building set in wonderful, private grounds, a short drive from central Aix and rich in history. Finding it is another matter! Our SatNav took us to the middle of a ghastly, busy retail park and told us we had arrived. Indeed we had - a notice board took us down a... more

I had my misgivings about this so-called Chateau since several online reviews were extremely negative about their entire experience. Our agent insisted the "chateau" was very nice and to give it a chance. From my initial failed attempts of calling the chateau and being put on hold for over 10 minutes, to no answer to email inquiries after one week,... more

After getting lost and unable to find the hotel with the terrible directions given on the internet and by a FAX, the Chateau is extremely impressive as you view it for the first time after driving through large iron gates (which you must ring to be opened). Stepping into the grand lobby one sees the gorgeous staircase and opened french... more

On First arrival I was shocked as the 'Chateaux 'is bang straight in the middle of a commercial district. Not as we where expecting it to be, in the middle of the country. However there is no doubt that the place is aeshthetically pleasing. However for a four star hotel it was overpriced musty and dusty. We also had to... more

On first arriving at the hotel, I was impressed by it's french charm, our large room, and the friendliness of the staff. However, the longer we stayed, the less enthusiastic we became. This hotel lacks the attention to detail which I would expect from a 4 star hotel. The hot water heater broke down the night of our arrival, which... more

Have just returned from a four day stay at the Chateau de la Pioline. Located some 3 or 4 kms outside of Aix, we expected a rural location. Yes, the chateau is in the midst of a quiet park setting, but unfortunately ithat park is located on a commercial strip of auto dealers and mechanic's shops of Les Milles. The... more

My wife and I stayed at the Chateau for 4 evenings beginning on Sunday May 7, 2006. After a 3 hour train trip by the TGV from Paris, we arrived at the chateau mid afternoon. We were greeted by their pleasant hotel staff and promptly checked in. We must note that my wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary,... more
