The staff here was very accommodating. We came in (literally) from the rain, as the accommodation we had arranged was uninhabitable (see my review on AirBNB in Aix). We walked into the lobby with no reservation, and were able to secure a room for a few days at a reasonable price. They could have tried to take advantage of us,... More

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in July, and found it to be a very nice place in a stellar location. This hotel is on the street Cours Mirabeau, where many restaurants and stores are situated. It is within walking distance of the tourism office and the bus station, which is convenient. Getting around from the hotel to... More

This hotel is situated on the Cours Mirabeau so very hard to beat on location, with a very handy car park at back of hotel. On the downside, very poor soundproofing, rudimentary breakfast. They have started to modernise, but it is an unlucky mix of (very nice) old and new. Bathroom very basic. Would not recommend, am afraid...

A large room at the grand hotel was a pleasant base with a great locality. All new save the ancient chest vase and armoire! Character in spades. Large grand staircase. The Cours Mirabeau is very central. Night markets, atmosphere and fountains with tremendous history. Weather in july very warm. French cafes and restaurants in abundance. Good air con and quiet... We stayed here in mid-June, and found it to be a great location right on the Cours Mirabeau, with everything within easy walking distance. The positives: location, price, moderately spacious room. The air conditioning works really well, which is important here during the hot summer months. Parking is included, although you need to find a place to leave your car... More

The Grand Hotel Negre Coste is in a great location in the center of the Cours Mirabeau. The rooms have high ceilings and take you back in time. The AC runs very cold. The WiFi works ok but cuts off at night for some reason. There is also an Apple computer in the lobby for guest use. The hotel could... More

I studied in Aix en Provence for one year as a junior so never got to stay in a hotel since I was living with a local family. Some 18 years later I got the opportunity to stay in Aix so my first choice was the Negre Coste. it's legendary in Aix and so I could not resist. Well, my... More

The hotel is dated but its location on the main street of Aix is locaion, location etc. We had a family room which was large and airy with its high ceiling. Room and bathroonm was spotless. Great french atmosphere on the street outside with markets and coffee shops. The breakfast was the usual continental but was better value than in... More

The location of this hotel is superb and we had a first floor room overlooking Cours Mirabeau, the Main Street in Aix. The room type we had was Superior Double and was spacious, with separate toilet from the bathroom, which was a plus and has ample storage areas for clothes etc. The hotel has a lift , another plus and... While the hotel is old, a bit worn and rooms small, it is centrally located with many shops, restaurants and squares/"places" with outdoor markets in easy walking distance of the hotel. That made efficient use of our time in Aix-en-Provence. There was enclosed parking which we appreciated. While there is no concierge, the front desk personnel were helpful.
