A large room at the grand hotel was a pleasant base with a great locality. All new save the ancient chest vase and armoire! Character in spades. Large grand staircase. The Cours Mirabeau is very central. Night markets, atmosphere and fountains with tremendous history. Weather in july very warm. French cafes and restaurants in abundance. Good air con and quiet... We stayed here in mid-June, and found it to be a great location right on the Cours Mirabeau, with everything within easy walking distance. The positives: location, price, moderately spacious room. The air conditioning works really well, which is important here during the hot summer months. Parking is included, although you need to find a place to leave your car... More

The Grand Hotel Negre Coste is in a great location in the center of the Cours Mirabeau. The rooms have high ceilings and take you back in time. The AC runs very cold. The WiFi works ok but cuts off at night for some reason. There is also an Apple computer in the lobby for guest use. The hotel could... More

I studied in Aix en Provence for one year as a junior so never got to stay in a hotel since I was living with a local family. Some 18 years later I got the opportunity to stay in Aix so my first choice was the Negre Coste. it's legendary in Aix and so I could not resist. Well, my... More

The hotel is dated but its location on the main street of Aix is locaion, location etc. We had a family room which was large and airy with its high ceiling. Room and bathroonm was spotless. Great french atmosphere on the street outside with markets and coffee shops. The breakfast was the usual continental but was better value than in... More

The location of this hotel is superb and we had a first floor room overlooking Cours Mirabeau, the Main Street in Aix. The room type we had was Superior Double and was spacious, with separate toilet from the bathroom, which was a plus and has ample storage areas for clothes etc. The hotel has a lift , another plus and... While the hotel is old, a bit worn and rooms small, it is centrally located with many shops, restaurants and squares/"places" with outdoor markets in easy walking distance of the hotel. That made efficient use of our time in Aix-en-Provence. There was enclosed parking which we appreciated. While there is no concierge, the front desk personnel were helpful.

The first day we checked in we were told the hotel was having trouble with their wifi and they were not able to replace the router until the day before we were to leave ( 5 days later ) so that was really inconvenient and annoying as we had to find wifi at cafes and restaurants to communicate with our... Situated in the very center of Aix, the hotel location is great. That is however the only positive feature to mention. We had reserved a parling place at the hotel, but it is a nightmare to reach it. In front of the hotel there is no indication as to how to reach the parking and the street is very narrow.... More

I actually felt like I was staying in a hotel in France with some atmosphere - very high ceilings, antique inlaid armoire (which was not in use for clothing), heavy red drapery and old wooden parquet floor. This had charm and slightly stale air but just open the window. The bathroom was fine, the internet worked and the bed was... More
