This was an over night stop with trips around the Loire valley. As sightseeing goes it was wonderful and the hotel and grounds added to the experience. Staff were polite and friendly but the room was cramped and basic for the price. Pity really as it would otherwise have made a great base for travelling around. more

Having stayed at this hotel on three other occasions over the past decade and loved it, I was very disappointed to see that it has been let fall into such a shabby state. I give this hotel a mixed review. Entering the hotel was a strange experience. You pull your car up to a side entrance and call the front desk via the intercom. They confirm your reservation and buzz you in. You then need a code to get in and out of the compound, either by foot or by car. The employees... more

This was a fantastic place to stay -- provided you did not come to spend lots of time in your room (which we did not!). Getting to stay on the grounds was a very special experience, especially in the low season. We had the grounds mostly to ourselves when they were closed to the public. The room and double bed (maybe less?) were incredibly small. (the 55-60 Euro rooms) The abbey was great. The grounds were super. It was very quiet at night. This hotel was not accurately represented on the web site. The basic premise of staying on the historic property sounded great but the reality was very disappointing. The public spaces are horrible. There really isn't a reception desk or a lobby of any kind. You are instructed to a separate building, where you encounter a soda machine and an elevator.... more
