We booked this hotel as our jumping-off point for a tour of the Normandy area after taking a ferry from Portsmouth and it proved a good location for this purpose. It is reasonablly close to the train station (where we had rented a car), and down the street from the cathedral and tourist information office... all of which we discovered... more

The hotel is well situated in the center of the town. While the room was small, it was certainly functional and clean. I was pleased to see the room had central air (since the room faced the city street). I found the staff quite helpful and the morning breakfast was OK, nothing to rave about, but certainly filling. more

I stayed here with a friend for 3 nights on a recent trip to Europe. I chose Caen because it seemed to be a central, convenient base for sightseeing in the Normandy region. This hotel is an easy 10-minute walk from the station and in the town centre near all the Caen sights - Chateau Ducale and the churches etc... more

I stopped staying at BW hotels back in the 80's because I thought they were of such a low standard. I regret to say that 20 years on, not much has changed if the Moderne is anything to go by. My wife and I stayed here for a night in a 'Superior' room. Amongst the litany of disatisfaction were the... more

Beautiful area with excellent shops and restaurants. Breakfast at 12 euro each was too expensive for us (we have an 9 yr old) so the McDo around the corner was better. (three of us ate for 7 euro). Good quality room, quiet and clean. Staff exceptionally helpful and polite. more

I stayed here with my kids while touring the region. The hotel is very comfortable and family friendly. It is more traditional than many hotels we stayed in on our trip, but we really appreciated the warm welcome. The room we had was large and comfortable, as well as quiet. The beds were really comfortable and we really felt like... more

This was a very nice place and a good value for the money. It is located in an area that has been converted to a pedestrian mall. It is a five minute walk from the castle of William the Conqueror. There are several very nice restaurants within a two to three minute walk. The rooms were very spacious and some... more

We stayed at this hotel on our way back from Le Mans. There were 20 of us and frankly, they were very accommodating. The receptionist arranged dinner for a table of 20 at a nearby restaurant at very short notice. We were quite noisey when we returned and spent a number of hours draining their malt whisky supplies. They took... more

We stayed at this hotel in downtown Caen on our way to see the D-Day beaches and see the Memorial Museum. The hotel was well located, the staff helpful, the room clean and comfortable. The museum is about a 10 minute cab ride. There are some nice restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel is no frills but... more

We booked with Brittany Ferries for a birthday getaway treat. Our room was clean and welcoming, no problems with size or noise. The reception staff were friendly, helpful and efficient and spoke English. Room service was a bit hit & miss but when it arrived it was excellent. Breakfast is a must, take your time and enjoy. The bar was... more
