comfortable hotel in a great location right next to the marketplace car park and bars, restaurants etc. Our room was basic but had everything we needed for a short stay. Very well priced. One massive word of warning - the car park opposite is used for the market every Sunday and cars left overnight will be towed away. I parked... More

What a great little small hotel. Close to the centre, overlooking the quay with a public car park opposite, free overnight. We were upgraded as the hotel was empty, so got a smart corner room with full length French windows and Juliet balconies. Well maintained and smart small hotel with reasonable size room and pleasant breakfast room, all for the... More

Extremely nice and helpful workers. Within walking distance to the tram that one can catch at the train station. Also within walking distance to the bus that goes to the War Museum. Coffee pot in room needed replacing. Hand held shower in huge tub. Quirky place which makes traveling fun. If one wants sterile and boring then go to the... More

Stayed three nights for the D-Day celebrations in a room on the first floor. There is no lift in this hotel and it was a struggle with the suitcase and no offer of help. The room was basic, at least I had a separate toilet. My sister and husband were on the second floor with no door on the toilet.... More

This is a basic but clean, quiet and friendly hotel. Good welcome at reception, with helpful advice. Big car park opposite is free from 19.00 to 9.00, and around €1.20 per hour during the pay period. It's right opposite so quite handy. Room at the front with view of marina (103). Comfy bed, kettle, tea, coffee. Double glazed so quiet... More

We had to stop by Caen during our road trip in Brittany/ Normandy, and Hotel de l'Univers seemed well located and convenient for a one-night-stay. With low expectations, we were actually shocked: rooms smell really terrible and bathroom is not well cleaned. Corridors are dark and creepy, I know September is not the high season, but there is no need... More

My husband and I stayed here on 24th August with friends. We arrived in Caen early AM so enjoyed a walk around the Castle before heading to the hotel. We arrived early for check-in and the smiley receptionist was great as they were able to provide us with rooms straight away. We stayed on the second floor and had a... More

This hotel is right along the canal with a great view of the port. The rooms are simple with older furniture. However, the mattress must be memory foam as I had a fantastic sleep. We walked around the shopping area just around the corner flanked by OLD churches on each side. There's lots of eating areas right outside the hotel... More

Damien, the receptionist, was fantastic! I emailed that we would not arrive until 22:30, and was emailed back the door code as the door closes at 22:00. Then in response to asking where I could lock the bicycles, Damien said he would stay up and wait for us so that he could securely store the bikes behind reception. What great... More

A reasonable price for an good hotel with great location. It is next to the most alive part of the city, with windows that leave the noise outside. Rooms including bathroom are clean and big enough with coffee and tea. Bad side of staying is that if you travel with car there is no hotel parking leaving you to catch... More
