We took 4 rooms for 2 nights, 1st to the 3rd of August. It is probably true to say that, for Verdun, this may be the only reasonable choice. One of our party had stayed here thirty years ago and had good memories, regrettably the ''decor'' has not been touched since his visit. The bathrooms urgently need a complete overhaul.... More

We only spent one night in this hotel coming to visit battlefields around Verdun. This hotel in quite old and we had a feeling we had travelled a hundred years into the past. It does not only look old, it seems that everything is old there. Our room (#36) was quite small and did not have air-conditioning. Walls were covers... More

I think people are being a bit hard on this place. Yes, it is old. The hallways do smell a bit odd in warm weather (the rooms smell fine). There is no AC. But, it is perfectly located near the river with many shops and restaurants. The battlefields are minutes away. The room (rm54 for us) was huge with a... More

My party stayed at this hotel. It was a very interesting place and full of history. The hotel was built in 1827. Being that old, yes the floors creaked, it was a little musty smelling but the atmosphere was amazing. The hotel has character and if you like something different and are adventurous this would a nice choice. It's not... More

Stayed here for 3 nights whilst touring france on the bikes. The secure parking is a little way from the hotel about 5 mins walk throught the town. The rooms are very dated with free wifi that only works for 10 mins before you need to re-register. The bathroom looked clean but had a nasty smell that seemed to linger... More

This hotel is as old as the city itself. It seems like nothing have been done in here since a hundred year!!! It's a miracle that the don't still use candles to have light. If you want a really horrible old style hotel with real used furniture and a toilet from the past, then you will be right otherwise just... More

Built circa 1827 and rated 3 star (but with 2 star amenities), a central location, excellent restaurant (when open), and accommodating front desk says all that is good about this venerable establishment that somehow survived both world wars. But maybe it shouldn't have. Moderate size rooms with flat screen TV only in French. After repeating for several days that "we... More

The hotel is in a great location but you have to park about 3 minutes walk away as it is in a pedestrian area. The hotel itself is in quite an attractive older building but the rooms are a little bit dated. There was a flat screen TV in our room but we had to get the receptionist to make... More

The staff at the Front Desk are very professional and helpful. The room was ok but the bathroom had a problem! should someone using the bathroom above my room, you thought that someone was in your own bathroom and same for flushing the toilet! very noisy flushing system etc. The breakfast/buffet was perfect and plenty.

Stepping through the front door of the Hostellerie du Coq Hardi is like stepping back in time. The wooden beams are great, and the uneven floors provide a reminder that you're staying in an old building. Sadly the furniture in the bedrooms has not been updated, it truly felt like my childhood holidays of the 1980s with the musty smell... More
