During the night of our one-night-stay we heard elephants in the attic, monkeys on the staircase and hyenas in the hallway. Maybe it was just guests getting home in the wee hours of the morning, but it sounded like a zoo! Short said: It's loud. Especially, if your room is located on the staircase. Avoid that or use earplugs. Otherwise,... More

Close to the Loraine National Opera and the famous Plaza Stanislas but for about the same price you can stay at Hotel Les Portes D'Or (at 21 Rue Stanislas) which is roughly the same distance from the Plaza as the Stanislas, but before reaching the Plaza and the surroundings look nicer. However, the staff is very attentive.

O.K., You know you are booking a two star place, fair enough. Yes, 54€ for a room only a block away from the Opera, and Place Stanislas is as cheap as you are going to get. There are things though that even at cheapcheap would be nice to have. Like for example, I am 5'8" and my feet (and ankles)... More

2 star Hotel within 100m of Stanislas square. A small friendly hotel, just what you would expect for 2 stars. Clean and tidy usual continental breakfast. The location is superb, all the main attractions are within easy walking distance but the street that the hotel in in is very quiet.

Be sure to visit the city tourist bureau down the street. They have a cordial, professional multi-lingual staff. It was they who recommended the Stanislas (and warned us to steer clear of La Reine; to describe it as "faded glory" is charitable. See the reviews.) For most mature (over forty) North American travelers, the place is bare-bones. The couple who... More
