We stayed here for 1 week in June 2012. Online pictures are decieving. I found the hotel to be very old and not as clean as expected. -Bed sheets had stains -Stains on carpeted floor -Found a bug in the bathroom sink -Bathroom sink rusting -Shower acted up-- sometimes the water would suddenly go hot and then turn off -Laundry... I booked this room and paid for it in advance. Once I got to my room I disliked it so much that I left and went to another hotel even though my room was not refundable. The lobby was strange. After checking in I had to climb a bunch of stairs just to get to the elevator. The room was... More

The Grand Hotel Haussmann is very well placed and so is an excellent base for a site-seeing and shopping tour of Paris. However, it is far from "grand". The entrance is small and the lift is up about six steps. There is a porter, but if you have walking problems, it could be an issue. The lift is tiny, but... More

Dear IOWman, Thank you very much for your comment dated May 2012. I just would like to give you an answer, as the General Manager of The Chess Hotel, freshly openned in place of The Grand Hotel Haussmann where you stayed, after a total reconstruction and decoration, leaded by the architect Cabinet Bastie and the famous French decorator couple Gilles... Nice little hotel in the Opera area, close to the metro, shopping, mono prix, movie theaters, restaurants....you name it. The rooms have a lot of character, and so do the delightful desk managers! They were incredibly nice and accommodating. We were allowed to crash in their salon for a couple of hours after checking out of our room and before... More

After staying at Grand Hotel Haussmann I read back other Trip Advisor reviews of this hotel and discovered that what I experienced doesn’t seem to have been a one off: this is a hotel with past form. I travel to Paris frequently but on this occasion as I was taking my sister with me as a birthday treat for her,... More

The hotel is tucked down a side road not 5 minutes walk from the Roissy-Bus stop and the Paris opera. Also really near the metro/RER and the big department stores. Very friendly, multiligual reception staff and a porter to help with bags. The lift is tiny. The hotel is old and a bit wonky in places, but very well kept.... More

This is our second stay here and it was even better than last time! Still immaculately clean, our room at the front of the hotel was so French in it's decor, wonderful! My only complaint last time was lack of help with luggage but that was solved this tone when a nice man helped us too and from the lift... More

I choose this hotel for the location and it did not disappoint. Stayed here 3 nights with my 18 yr old daughter. It is located 2 blocks up and 2 blocks to the right of the Airport's Roissey Bus. Same for the Opera metro stop, the Opera House Palais Garnier and the Red Line hop on and off bus. With... More

I stayed in Grand Hotel Haussmann for 2 days in July 2011. I booked it through the site of the hotel a week before the trip. The hotel had a special offer so I had a big room with a big bathroom for quite a reasonable price. The location is perfect! 2 min walk from the metro station ( 2... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Chess Hotel opened in 2014 in one of the most prestigious areas of Paris. Located close to the Opera, La Madeleine, the Grands Magasins department stores, and La Bourse, the Paris stock exchange, it is a unique establishment in many ways. Firstly, it astonishes with its compelling aesthetics. It boasts an original design by Gilles and Boissier, which makes striking use of beautiful materials such as linen, oak and Carrara marble. It features the bold and innovative artwork of Cyprien Chabert. From the curvaceous furniture and quality fabrics to the hues of the wood and the shape of the fixtures, no detail was left to chance. A harmonious and elegant decor has been created that is like no other. While chic and refined, the Chess Hotel is also distinguished by its welcoming and cosy atmosphere, which transforms each room into a true haven. The heart of the city beats just beyond our doorstep. Yet somehow the hotel seems miles away from any hustle and bustle. Travellers are invited to enjoy absolute relaxation. A game of chess by the fire or a quiet hour's reading on the inner terrace. Perhaps an evening spent in blissful privacy amidst the original decor and intimate atmosphere of your room. After long hours of work, or a busy day's sightseeing, you will appreciate the calm and gentle ambience of the Chess Hotel. The Chess Hotel is also exceptional in terms of facilities and services. It is a place distinguished by our efficient, yet warm and gracious, hospitality. It is a place that transcends routine. We are proud that our guests are so much more to us than simply clients. It is a charmingly friendly hotel which places an accommodating and helpful team at the disposal of all guests. We are pleased to provide personalised services and thoughtful recommendations for discovering the treasures of Paris, allowing you to venture off the beaten paths of the capital. ... more   less
