We stayed here for two nights during a three day trip to Paris. It was clean (it seemed newly painted, everything was white and there were wooden floors), the rooms were quite (no street noise), the location was great (very central to the Place de la Republique!) and there was a little baggage elevator which meant that we did not... Don't be put off by the slightly grubby surroundings immediately around the hotel which is just off Place de la Republique, the place is immaculate inside, and our room had either been decorated the day before (no smell of paint...) or was a tribute to the abilities of the housekeeping staff - it was spotless, possibly the cleanest French hotel... Dear Madam, Dear Sir, We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. We are very happy you liked the room, the cleaness and services we offer. We try to give a good value for money. You are totally right our elevator is very small, but useful and charming isn't it? We don't offer the A/C in order to... More

There is no air conditioning. The online pictures are nothing like the real thing. The cab driver kept pointing to the hotel and we didn't recognize it. The area, especially the plaza, is crawling with seedy characters at night. The front desk was not very helpful--they couldn't even direct us to the closest Metro station. The room was very small.... I booked this Hotel on January 7th 2014 for our Business trip to Paris for 3 nights and seven of my colleagues. On the day of our arrival in the morning they cancelled our CONFIRMED Reservation! From this time on we never had any reaction on our letters which we had sent by registered mail. According to our Information the... More

Trying to cut down on hotel costs as senior travelers we chose the Hotel Republique near the Place by the same name. Needed to turn sideways to get in the door to what was a large closet, not a room by any definition. It's a hotel for young backpackers - we made a mistake. No lounge, no bar and an... More

When we came up from the underground station we were pleasantly surprised to see the hotel right there on the left, great location for exploring Paris by metro. We were not as pleased to see the massive speakers being erected in the square in front of the hotel. We were slightly early so our room was not ready, we waited... More

Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you for your contribution. If you arrive at 7am for a check in 13h normally, we can only make you wait until the time of checkin. We have proposed to leave your luggage and come back, you do not want. Your impatience before we have given you the first room was ready. Everyone knows it... More

So this hotel has spotlessly clean but tiny rooms with new bathrooms. Quite characterless, a tiny lift and grumpy staff. Don't buy the breakfast, you can do a lot better just around the corner. Useful location but I couldn't actually recommend this hotel.

We have been staying in a renovated room (n° 11) that was very clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is close to the train station (Gare de L'Est) and the sightseeing attractions are nearby. The area around the hotel is young and uprising and offers loads of really nice restaurants that are not frequented by... More

Staying in Canal Saint-Martin

Neighborhood Profile
Canal Saint-Martin
The tree-lined Canal Saint-Martin is the focal point of one of the most romantic and hip areas of Paris. Watch boats travel along the canal while lovers and friends take in the atmosphere from the banks or the bridges. Evenings see hoards fill the embankments to drink wine and enjoy good company. The colder days lead people to hipster bars, cozy restaurants, and concert spaces. Those who are more adventurous may explore hidden gems down nearby streets, from local bars to futuristic architecture. With its enriching mix of people of all ages and backgrounds, this neighborhood has a dynamic, inspiring vibe.
