This hotel is a gem. It's modern, clean, in a great, safe location with lots to do and see nearby, which includes numerous Latin Quarter restaurants, Notre Dame, and the Luxembourg Gardens all within a few blocks. There is a beautiful square with a scenic water fountain directly in front of the hotel. The square which has two or three... More

Stayed at Select Hotel Rive Gauche for five nights last week. It's perfectly stutuated in the 5th Arrondisement of the Latin Quarter. The Latin Quarter can be very busy with bustling restaurants and terrific pastry shops; however, the hotel is hidden away in a relatively quiet corner virtually next to University Sorbonne. Very peaceful, but I'm not sure if school... More

This was our second stay at Rive Gauche and we would choose it again. The rooms are clean, cool and comfortable. Staff helped us print airline boarding passes. The location is ideal - close to Cluny, Luxemborg and Odeon Metro stations. This will get you just about anywhere you want to visit. Many restaurants and shops in immediate safe neighborhood.... The hotel is in the perfect location for Paris! Don't kid yourselves about the amount of walking you'll be doing in Paris. It's a trek. At night you'll likely want to see some typical Parisian night life and that's a stone's throw away on the Boulevard Saint Michel and the Odeon metro stop. Also to see Paris and begin trekking... We booked a standard room and it was small but very well furnished. Although it had only a view to the atrium this meant it was quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times. One detail that I particularly appreciated was the provision of a high quality radio in the room.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in April. We picked Select Hotel based on he combination of price/location and were really happy with our choice. Our room was very small (which is to be expected in Paris) and was fine by us since we didn't spend much time in the room. Based on a glance at the floor... More

I've stayed in Paris 50-60 times over the years, so I know the city well, but have rarely stayed in the 5th. The Select Hotel was a good choice, and not too expensive by Paris standards. It's immediately adjacent to a main entrance to the Sorbonne, and faces onto the Place Sorbonne which can get noisy at night. It's about... More

When we arrived we got a room on the ground floor with windows towards the street where people could look in unless you closed the curtains, which made the room very dark. The toilet had mold underneath the ring, as if the cleaners hadn't bothered to clean there for a long time (it shouldn't be too hard to reach that... More

Select is a recently renovated, mid-priced hotel off the Boulevard St Michel. There are lots of other hotels around, but Select is slightly more upmarket and very well situated. It is just beside the Sorbonne, on a square with no traffic so you don't have any noise. It is within walking distance of many of the Paris sights and there... More

This is a good friendly restaurant with reasonable prices to boot. The hotel is situated directly outside the main entrance of Le Sorbonne in the 5th, and easy walk to many places. Cafes, repertory cinemas, antique booksellers and the Luxembourg gardens are all within spitting distance of the hotel.

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighborhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendor and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighborhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
