Personally I think this hotel is fantastic and I have stayed there everytime I have visited Paris. The people are really friendly, welcoming, facilities are clean, simple, beautiful with ancient charm

I have read the reviews of this hotel and can only wonder why on earth it does not get more terrible reviews. I took my wife there for her birthday last month and when we walked into the room we both nearly burst into tears. The bed had rubber under sheets, the bathroom was dirty the room smelt and I... This was a romantic and charming place for a young couple to stay their first time in Paris! We were on a budget, and while we did sacrifice amenities, we didn't sacrifice comfort. Our bed was warm, made daily, bathroom was spacious enough and clean, nothing fancy but definitely enough for our trip. It's really a memorable hotel. The building... More

You will find this budget hotel listed in almost every guide book on Paris. After reading TripAdvisor reviews , we booked rooms four months in advance for this popular hotel. It was everything we expected it to be- almost 90 steps to the fourth floor, small rooms, spotless clean comfortable beds, and a friendly ,helpful front desk. The park next... More

If you are on budget and you want a place just for sleep... having a shower and with easy access to the touristic spots then that's the place to go .....if you want to use the Wi-Fi you have to stay in the reception because there is no signal upstairs were the rooms are.I was frustrated because in their site... I am almost tempted to keep this secret to myself. I stayed at Hotel Esmeralda three nights last week and had a wonderful travel experience. Hotel Esmeralda has a privileged location in the 5th Arrondissement, and across the way from the Cathedral of Notre-Dame. It is also very close walking distance to Boulevard St. Germaine and the Saint-Germain-des-Prés quarter. Metro/RER... More

As far as location goes, Esmeralda is hard to beat! It is very much in the center of Paris, St Michel area, walking distance to 101 attractions. My room was pretty roomy for what I paid, but naturally quite basic in amenities to compensate. Still, I got a clean bed, quiet and a shower, so no complaints. Staff at reception... More

This is the 2nd time I have stayed here, but about 15 years apart. It is a quirky olde worlde hotel with creaky floors, skinny hallways & doorways & gordily decorated rooms - but I love it! The location is fantastic & even though we are only 1 flight up this time (last time i was on the top floor-... More

I'm a young Australian travelling around Europe, and I arrived in Paris to some pretty shocking accommodation on my first night. Luckily I found Hotel Esmeralda- life saver! I literally just walked in, asked for a room for a few days and they just handed me the keys and sent me up. The staff are easygoing and helpful, and the... More

We took a weekend break here in February 2014. Room was cold, no hot water. Got some blankets from reception who also sorted out the hot water problem. Charming hotel with views of Notre Dame from the windows. Excellent location. A hidden gem.

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
