I've always wanted to stay at this hotel and it did not disappoint! My family stayed here for two nights, we had somewhat connecting rooms on the fourth floor. While the rooms are small with out all the mod-cons that most people expect, the reason we loved it was the locale. Just on the other side of the Seine from... More

I just wrote this in a comment for booking.com, anyway: This is one of the typical hotel you find in Paris. Very old and small. But thanks God still existing! It is in the very heart of Paris. This means you will not spend half of your holiday in the tube and the other half complaining for your feet... You... More

This is a nice old hôtel with a great location to enjoy Paris. Some rooms have a nice view of the Notre Dame Cathedral. It is very close to the Louvre. The rooms are not fancy but adequate. There is no elevator so you must climb up winding stairs to get to your room. But this adds to ambience of... More

If you're looking for a big sign, you'll totally miss this hotel. It's right behind Shakespeare & Company bookstore, in a 17th century building. It's very quaint, with no frills. Wifi only works in the lobby, rooms are accessible by a winding wooden staircase -- no elevator. The rooms are simple with a wooden bed, dresser and desk. But the... More

It is our hotel in Paris, we stay here whenever we come to paris. The building and furnishings are worn but the price for the location is great and the staff are always helpful and kind. We stayed in the smallest double and had just enough room to squish in a travel cot for our baby

I am on vacation in Paris, and after two nights at this hotel, I've checked out and I'm staying elsewhere now. The idea of the hotel is nice, which is a quaint Inn housed in what is probably a mid-evil building on a cobble stone street. Sounds nice, right? No, it's not that kind of place. Our room was facing... More

This very old hotel is high on charm and funkiness, in the most perfect location on a quiet side street around the corner from Shakespeare & Co., facing a lovely little neighborhood park. Our room was at the top with a big french windows that open to a spectacular view of Notre Dame. Right around the other corner is the... More

I imagine Hotel Esmeralda is either the sort of hotel you either love or hate. We loved it - the barely recognisable door way, the spiral staircase, the squeaky, narrow hallways, the black floral wallpaper... really, what's not to like? Across the road from the metro, and directly around the corner from Shakespeare & Co the location is superb, especially... More

This quiet, little hotel is just across the river from Notre Dame and just around the corner from Shakespeare and Company making it an excellent location. The staff here are welcoming and happy to assist. The rooms are on the smaller side but very charming in an offbeat, shabby-chic way. I loved waking up to the bells of Notre Dame... More

Its a great place to be, in the centre of Paris, but the place needs a tuch of makeup. But the recepionist is very nice and the place is very cozy, but no breakfast is a bit sad. But there is a good place for breakfast in the same building, beside Shakespeare. But the view of Notre Dame is lovely,... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
