We got an apartment on Boulevard Sebastopol two blocks from Chatelet, which means in the absolute city centre. It was not super elegant in any way, but that made it feel more real, like you were borrowing someones flat. The price couldn't be better; the rooms are spotless and while modest, the apartment is well designed. But it was smaller than I imagined, not unbearable, but much better suited for one person rather than two. However we didn't spend much time there so it was perfectly manageable. The free wi-fi and long distance calls were a very nice plus....
