On a narrow street in the 6th, around the corner from Deux Magots and the church in St Germain, Rue Jacob lies, on that rue appears a hotel D'Angleterre. Small but not a midget building, a central garden which affords daylight/moonlight to the lobby, charming personnel at the desk, a comfortable room ( I have now stayed in three different... More

The d'Angleterre is tucked away in the superchic Left Bank part of the French capital in St Germain de Pres. Its history is classic having been in a former life The British Embassy, a base for Benjamin Franklin and a haunt of Ernest Hemingway. Following in the American writer's footsteps I wanted to retrace the Paris of bygone years. It's... More

This used to be the perfect place to stay in the 6th; unfortunately no one is keeping the rooms up to snuff and many are rife with plumbing issues. When I asked for a new shower curtain in the small room I'd taken because the curtain had black mold on the bottom, the desk offered to upgrade me to a... More

The hotel, which is fairly small, has a very nice ambiance and most of the rooms are large by Paris standards. You cannot reserve in person, even if you are standing at the front desk with your credit card in hand. I tried it, but 2 desk clerks were rather abrupt with me saying I had to reserve by email... I booked the hotel literally the morning of for a special deal. Not only that but I was surprised that they upgraded my single room upon arrival to a junior suite! The hotel was extremely clean and my room was really spacious and had alot of complimentary toiletries. The room was a bit stuffy and i do not think they... More

Elegant hotel in a great location, walking distance to the Louvre and Musee d"Orsay and other sights. Front desk staff were exceptionally polite and all spoke english. Breakfast was delicious and served in the "drawing room" area or you could take your food to the outside court if warm enough. Room quite comfortable. We had Hemingway's room (14). The only... More

A great location in the 6th Arr. The home of the British Embassy in the 18th C., it still maintains the feel of British charm. A lovely courtyard off the main lobby; a small bar where we enjoyed aperitifs each evening; breakfast room is perfect with an over-the-top continental breakfast presented on top of a grand piano (you can also... This is our favorite hotel in Paris: the location is fabulous, the rooms are charming and spacious, and the staff is most helpful. Hemingway stayed in Room 14 and frequented the Les Cafe Aux Clercs across the street. It is a short walk to the Left Bank and to some great restaurants such as Le Comptoir du Relais, L'Atelier de... hotel is lovely, very good location. If you can walk up stairs, ask for room 42, just beautiful!!! Front desk helpful, particularly Tomas, very gracious! Room service breakfast a little meager but sufficient.

Stayed here years ago with my parents; love it just as much now. Old fashioned elegance everywhere. Delicious breakfast served on a grand piano. Lovely courtyard was a favourite spot especially when it was 30°. Nice to have separate sitting area in the room. And you can't beat the location for walking to great restaurants, shopping, the Seine and major... More

Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighborhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighborhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighborhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
