This is a really beautiful small hotel. Excellently appointed and comfortable room facing the garden. No restaurant but the panelled breakfast room is a joy, as is the breakfast. You'll love staying here. Sadly, and surprisingly, we found Besancon a dull place. more

We stayed at the Charles Quint for one night on our way through France en route to Switzerland and it has to be said that this was an unexpected highlight of the holiday. From the moment we arrived to when we left the owners and their staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was full... more

This was one of our first stop-overs on our two week car-holiday around Western Europe, and was a very nice place to stay. We stayed only for one night unfortunately, and would have considered one more night if we had known what was in store for us. We booked a room with shower overlooking the garden, which sounded nice to... more

The Charles Quint rates as one of my favourite hotels. Elegant without being over the top, we stayed in the largest room which accommodated two adults and our two children (sofa bed). The staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was superb which we enjoyed in the garden. The surprise was the swimming pool not mentioned on the website. The location... more

We used this great little hotel for the first and last nights of our european trip and what a lovely hotel it is, relaxing, comfortable with old-world french charm. Our hosts were charming and very helpful, forgiving our very poor french - breakfasts were great - we're big fans of proper croissants!! The hotel has a car park - not... more

What a lovely hotel in such a lovely town. we stayed for one week and didn't have a moments regret. The staff were helpful and always available. We chose to have a garden room at a litle extra over the base rate but it was worth every penny, nothing beats getting up in the morning and having breakfast served to... more

Arriving late afternoon in busy Besancon, we headed to the Tourist Information Bureau to help us find a night's accommodation after a couple of reccommendations were full. We managed to get a room at Charles Quint, and even though we were only there one night, it was a highlight, rather than a stop-over. The hotel, tucked away on a tiny... more

I stayed here 1 night in March and despite the bitter cold, the hotel was warm and absolutely charming. It's very old and situated next to the Cathedral, about a 10 minute walk from the Old City. Very quiet location, rooms are decorated in 18th century French antque style with a large luxurious bathroom and gorgeoud views of the garden... more

Saw the good reviews on this website, then checked out the hotel's own website. Made the booking via a few e-mails, and found them to be friendly to deal with in this way. Their website has a multitude of photos showing the hotel's rooms and I have to say that, unlike other hotel photos, this website gives a completely accurate... more

It was on the recommendation of the previous review that I considered this hotel. The review was absolutely spot on!! This Hotel is a gem. We had a beautiful room at the top of the hotel with a separate bathroom, which was as big as some bedrooms we have stayed in!! The room and bathroom were immaculate. The bed was... more
