Excellent breakfast, friendly staff, beautiful surroundings and some lovely antique shabby chic furniture. The cathedral with the most famous astronomical clock 300 metres away. This is one of the most charming hotel in this area that I have seen so far...

A truly lovely hotel on the hill between the citadel and old town and within easy walking distance to both. The views from the terrace are relaxing and one can have breakfast, sundowners or snack there on a warm day. The rooms are large and comfortable and lack only coffee making equipment. Ours had access onto a private garden while... More

Comfortable, good service, elegant decor and beautiful view. This hotel is on a hilltop, steps away from the Citadelle, one of the most alluring sights in Besancon, and just up the hill from the Cathedral. We were able to park safely in the "Jardin" behind the building and walk in to town for dinner, and to the Citadelle and museum... More

The Hotel Le Sauvage is located in the old part of Besançon, yet a bit on the outskirts. To get there you will either have to walk a small steep ascent or drive through some narrow streets and corners. The establishment itself is well hidden and discloses its charm only to those willing to go inside. The decor of hallways,... More

Small boutique hotel in the very heart of the old city of Besançon- prime location and exquisite buildings (former convent). The common areas are simply beautiful redone with great Taste and filled with antiques, old frames, soothing dark colors and great attention to details. Professional and welcoming staff. Simple but fresh, substantial breakfast in a lovely and quiet sitting-room, with... More

A charming hotel in a recently renovated historical building close to the Cathedral and Citadel. Very friendly staff but beds are typical of French hotels - somewhat small. One overnight stop returning from Switzerland, Besancon city is worth the detour. Visit the Victor Hugo museum.

A wonderful night en route to the Alps. Lovely room in a charismatic hotel in a delightful town. On arrival the charming receptionist could not have been more helpful and made a great recommendation for dinner. In the morning she was up and serving a superb breakfast. Thanks for a lovely overnight stay.

We stayed a Saturday night here in mid-February. Our sat-nav found it first time although it's a tortuous route (it's a relief to reach the car park!) but well worth it. The conversion of the old convent is tastefully done, and our room (18) was excellent - good size and great views over the city (and that was only a... More

Excellent hotel with stylish rooms, perfect beds, client-friendly staff, close to old city as well as to the citadel. Private parking in the garden hotel is also very handy. All in all one of the nicest places I know in France. And so is Besancon itself.
