A charming hotel in a recently renovated historical building close to the Cathedral and Citadel. Very friendly staff but beds are typical of French hotels - somewhat small. One overnight stop returning from Switzerland, Besancon city is worth the detour. Visit the Victor Hugo museum.

A wonderful night en route to the Alps. Lovely room in a charismatic hotel in a delightful town. On arrival the charming receptionist could not have been more helpful and made a great recommendation for dinner. In the morning she was up and serving a superb breakfast. Thanks for a lovely overnight stay.

We stayed a Saturday night here in mid-February. Our sat-nav found it first time although it's a tortuous route (it's a relief to reach the car park!) but well worth it. The conversion of the old convent is tastefully done, and our room (18) was excellent - good size and great views over the city (and that was only a... More

Excellent hotel with stylish rooms, perfect beds, client-friendly staff, close to old city as well as to the citadel. Private parking in the garden hotel is also very handy. All in all one of the nicest places I know in France. And so is Besancon itself.

we stayed here during the winter months and were enchanted with the place. the decor is wonderfully magical. upon entering you are enveloped in a welcoming friendly atmosphere which is dripping with style and an area gone by. the staff is ultra friendly, we were even shown 3 different rooms for choosing our favorite one, which was the hardest thing... We went to Besançon at short notice and were happy to get a room at Le Sauvage. In our opinion it is one of the most beautiful hotels we stayed in. The renovation done with taste and love. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a nice outside space. Had it not been December we would have loved to sit... More

This is a beautiful hotel. It was a former convent. The hotel setting is high elevation looking down over the city. The rooms are decorated in French style lovely linens and a great view. What more can you ask for. We stayed two nights and would return again in a minute. We toured the Citadelle and walked the city. There is... More

Wonderful positioning in the old part of the town. The hotel is styled in a classy French traditional style with a quality finish. We were upgraded to a suite at the top of the building front facing with views over the town. The room was a split level with plenty of space and separate bathroom (shower in bath) and was... More

Quite a gem for this small city - well-situated (but take your GPS with you) just next to the Citadelle and walking distance to the main city areas (though the walk back is a bit of a climb). Wonderful staff that was thoughtful, welcoming and efficient! The rooms were large - though not overdone with furniture. The breakfast was sufficiently... More

My husband and I recently stayed for one night in this excellent 3 star hotel, which is situated in the old part of town. The former convent has been renovated with taste and style. The young lady who welcomed us was charming and most helpful. She reserved a table for us at the brasserie nearby which was extremely good value... More
