My husband and I stayed here three nights. The hotel is in a nice location on a square in Chinon, close to the chateau, the medieval section of town, restaurants, etc. Our room was a bit small, but fine. Because the room faced the square, and we were there on the weekend, it could get noisy at night with the... more

Overall the hotel was good value except for the continental breakfast which at 10 Euros was overpriced. Our room overlooked the square and was quite comfortable. If you have a car be sure to book the hotel garage as there is little parking nearby and no parking nearby on Market days. more

The hotel's location is excellent for touring the medieval section of Chinon and the castle; the free elevator up to the chateau is a very short stroll. It was also convenient having a parking garage available. The public spaces were attractive and the room was clean with a little balcony overlooking the chateau. However, the room was also very small... more

I stayed here as part of a Rick Steves Tour. The location could not be better...smack in the center of town within walking distance to shops, restaurants and the Chateau. I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the room, larger then what I was expecting. I was in a room facing the little square in front of the hotel... more

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. Staff were pleasant enough but the hotel had no lifts. In the first room that we were given, the toilet did not work so we waited for 20 miniutes or so while a staff member fiddled with it trying to fix it. He finally gave up and we were transferred to another... more

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in May 2008. It is located on a charming square in the very centre of Chinon. Though the public areas of the hotel are decorated in a very individual and charming style, my room was very small and quite plain. The hotel does not have a lift which was especially difficult as... more

We stayed for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The hotel was very quaint and cosy. It didn't feel like a chain hotel and felt very traditionally french. The staff were extremely warm and welcoming. Rooms were small and our bathroom really tiny, however, both were spotlessly clean. Our rooms had balconies overlooking the small town square and... more

My mother and I stayed here last week for 6 nights and we LOVED it. Really didn't expect this to be so charming, clean, friendly and comfortable. My mother had a rather small room but with a great view on the terraces in front of the hotel. My room was larger and very pretty at the back, so very quiet.... more

Just got back from another fabulous two weeks motoring holiday in France. We stayed 4 nights at the Hotel de France in Chinon. Last year we stayed three - it is just a great little hotel. Rickety stairs, cobbled streets, lovely restaurants, cheap parking, wonderful town, wine everywhere! 84 euros (£58) a night per room - can't get much better.... more
