We stayed here for a weekend and had single rooms which were extremely small. Bathroom small, furniture is outdated however this probably is meant to add to the ambience however for the price that you pay for a small room they should be able to update the furniture. Breakfast expensive €22 with a limited selection of locally produced goods to... more

The woman who took the reservation was very nice and helpful. I had difficulty finding the property and would suggest better signage for those of us arriving in the night. The woman at the desk and the man who helped me with my bags were wonderful. Unfortunately, I was terribly disappointed in the room. The room I was given was... more

The restaurant was exceptionally good and the sommelier even better - if like us you are wine lovers let him guide you for an incredible degustation experience. The rooms were a little dissapointing - tiny and overpriced. The bar/seating area was lacking in warmth or atmosphere. Apart from the restaurant staff, service in the rest of the hotel was indifferent.... more

The chateau exterior is impressive and the surrounding area is beautiful. However, we found the staff to be indifferent, the rooms to be small and lacking in character and the price of the room to be excessive for what it was. At €275 a night, we would expect to have a view, decent space, character, extra amenities. This hotel/chateau offers... more

The room was 'compact' and decidedly tired in parts. Outside, in the grounds there was need of some tidying and attention to detail, this was also reflected in the pool area, which was scruffy. Our dinner was a complete let-down because, although we asked to dine at 8pm, and were present in very good time, we were neglected completely, and... more

This hotel is simply amazing. I booked for a week at very short notice based on the fact that this chateau is part of the Relais & Chateaux group - although I was slightly concerned about some of the posted comments, albeit dated 2006. I was travelling with my wife and 13 month old daughter. It transpired that I had... more

My family and I had an enjoyable three night stay at the Chateau de Marcay this past June. I travelled with my wife, 9 year old son and my wife’s parents. We had a one bedroom suite, the in-laws a double room. I would recommend the hotel to others, with some qualifications. Our suite layout reflected the adaptation of a... more

My husband and I stayed at this chateau 2 nights in July on our way back from Biarrtiz. It was our second visit, the first being 3 years ago and my, how things have changed, unfortunately for the worse. We had decided to use this stopover as a time to relax having done the touristy thing many times. I have... more

This converted chateau looks just like the photographas on its website. It is off the beaten path and comparatively difficult to find (use Via Michelin to get driving directions). It does not have air conditiioning, so on a hot day, it is not very comfortable. While the bathroom was fabulous, the bedroom was a little tired, no pun intended. The... more

My one caveat about Chateau de Marcay is that it is expensive... you might find a better value in nearby Chinon. But if you want to stay in a castle for a special occasion, I recommend it highly. I selected Chateau de Marcay for a special birthday, and was elated every time that I looked up at "my turret", visible... more
