We stayed in the Amboise, a triple room in the eaves of this old coaching Inn. We had a weekend stay which included breakfast and tickets for two local Chateaux. The weather was quite cold and after sightseeing it was lovely to get back to our cosy spacious room. The beds were comfortable and the pillows really first class. Everything... More

Lovely hotel, very central and well maintained. Staff were friendly and professional and the owner extremely pleasant and polite. Breakfast good but a little limited. Excellent location for walking to the Chateaux and exploring the town.

The room was in an older building and only had a double bed. Make sure you clarify this if you want the twin beds. No elevator either. The bed was comfortable and the shower was spacious. An overpriced breakfast was available. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance. Chateau d’Azay is within walking distance too. There is... More

Our two night stay was excellent. The Richlieau room in the annex had been sympathetically restored and looked out over the main square. One small criticism was the lack of any hooks in the bathroom. Being out of season the restaurant was quiet with a limited menu but the quality of the food and presentation was extremely good value. Wine... More

the hotel host and hostess were amazing, accommodating, welcoming and took pride in the establishment. Overall excellent stay, the rooms were spacious, newly remodeled bathrooms, quiet and relaxing. The hotel had charm, great location to use as a base to explore the little town on foot or tour the adjacent towns, excellent parking facilities, The 2 day deal that included... More

A wonderful place – beautiful setting, lovely décor with antiques and tapestries, friendly and courteous staff. Our room, a “comfort room” located in the building separate from the building with the restaurant, was huge, as was the bathroom. The breakfast was great with a wide selection (cereal, cheeses, breads, custard pie, coffee, tea, milk, etc.) The afternoon we arrived, we... More

We stayed at this hotel for two nights en route to Bordeaux in August 2013. We enjoyed the hotel and Azay-le-Rideau so much that we vowed to return in 2014 for a longer stay. This we did in early June for 6 nights - sadly the hotel was fully booked to allow us a longer stay. It was all just... More

I've just returned to the U.S. after two weeks in France, with one of those weeks relaxing comfortably in Le Grand Monarque, a perfect small French hotel in the town of Azay-le-Rideau. The truth is I have no idea how big the hotel really is because for a solid week, I felt as though I was the only guest. Polite,... More

The Grand Monarque is characterful hotel set in the centre of the town, with private parking for hotel guests. Upon arrival, we received a warm welcome and our bags were carried up to our room while we checked in. Our spacious room was up in the eaves on the second floor, with lovely wooden beams supporting the ceiling. Our room... More

We stayed there for a week while visiting Chateaux of the Loire. the staff could not have been more welcoming. in particular the manager went out of his way to make us comfortable. the hotel is pleasantly spacious and an excellent centre from which to explore the delights of the Loire valley. the only disadvantage we encountered was that the...
