We stayed in le petit troglo for one night. Azay is a favourite location for us and noticed this as something different to try. We had a long and very hot journey, so our first reactions were slightly tarnished. First, the good points: It is charmingly different - have never stayed in a cave before". The "room" is comfortable with... More

We stayed in the Grand Troglo in April of 2015. It was SO BEAUTIFUL! Owner, Alain, and his wife were so kind and accommodating. Alain recommended an excellent restaurant, a shortcut to Azay-le-Rideau on foot, and his phone number in case we had any problems! We enjoyed a bottle of sparkling wine (Alain had some for purchase!) on the gorgeous... More

Located slightly outside of the city, the hotel is placed up on top of a cliff that overlooks the valley below, and is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine. If you're wanting to get away and have some peace and quiet with that special person, this is a great spot! The owners are onsite and are very attentive... More

Very friendly staff. A 300 year old cave. The rooms have been carefully made up - we stayed in the Grand and our kids the Petit. The rooms are a bit damp and the layout not totally ideal - the loo is just by the head of the bed). The GPS took us to a field 30 mins away (perhaps... More

When my GPS said we'd arrived at the destination, I thought I'd make a mistake since there was so much construction going on. Very quickly though, you discover that this place is still being completed. There is no "check-in" or anything like that as people are milling about outside and will recognise you and just take you to your room.... More

The 2 owners are very welcoming and clearly committed to "continuous improvement". We stayed end June '14 and the lift is in and working and Alain had just fitted a small decking terrace with sun loungers from which to enjoy the view from the top of the property. The rooms are better equipped and designed than I had expected, and... More

I was looking for someplace to stay while visiting the chateaux west of Tours. I happened upon Troglododo and tested the concept with my wife and college-age daughters. I did not get an immediate "no way" so I decided to try it out for one night. Boy was I surprised. Yes, it is a cave but a beautifully appointed cave.... More

We arrived at Troglododo soaking wet after cycling through a thunderstorm. There was some initial difficulty checking in with all the torrential rain and lightning, but this was more than redeemed when they brought us tea and cake and very kindly offered to wash and dry our gear which is definitely beyond the call of duty. The rooms we stayed... More

Set in the hillside just 10minutes walk out of the lovely Azay le Rideau, Trogladodo has some great individual rooms, ours was in the loft but had its own outdoor area with table and chairs. We took advantage of this by cooking a meal in the unadvertised kitchenette which was a nice surprise. Alain was a great help and the... More

This is a magical place. The caves are magnificently appointed, comfortable and summer-cool despite the July heatwave. Alain is an obliging host and serves a splendid home-made breakfast. Azay le Rideau itself is a charming little town. The only snag at present is access between the accommodation and the car park, which is higher up the cliff. OK coming down,... More
