Surprisingly well kept hotel: our room was spacious and cool, the beds were good, a bit on the soft side, the view across the valley was wonderful and breakfast was adequate with eggs, meats and cheeses as well as croissants and jams. Very friendly staff.

Vezelay is a beautiful medieval town, one of the beginnings of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, and by tradition the resting place of St. Mary Magdalene, to whom the basilica is dedicated. The Hotel Compostelle is just outside the town walls and an easy walk to anywhere. We slept in a pleasant, simple ground floor room that could... More

Friendly reception staff spoke good English, the lovely lady that checked us in got us 2 cold beers on arrival after cycling all day on a hot June day. Rooms were basic but good enough for 2 star as advertised. We stayed in room 4 which opened on to courtyard/ garden. No air conditioning which may be an issue in... More

We were happy to stay in that hotel because of its location. The coach could even drop us off right outside. It's an hold farm house converted into a hotel. Rooms ok, but rather simple. Bed ok, and room very quiet. We could look out onto the garden. Wifi in the room worked well, but it was iffy in the... More

It is rated 2* and in most ways that is accurate but it has a charm to it as well. The rooms are small but clean and fresh and everything you need for 3 nights. The people are very hospitable and some English is spoken which does help. Ideally located both for exploring the gorgeous old town of Vezelay. Ideal... More

We stayed at Hotel Le Compostelle in Vezelay for two nights last October. It is located a short distance from the Basilica, at the bottom of the hill, and parking is available immediately across the street. Inside is an area for breakfast in the morning and outside is a small patio for wine in the afternoon. We chose a room... More

Four of us (two couples) spent one night here in late June 2013 (not November, despite what you may see). The hotel was perfectly adequate for what we needed: a night in this utterly lovely and historic hilltop town before heading to the Nivernais Canal for a week of self-drive boating. We arrived at midday, had a lunch next door,... More

My husband and I are familiar with Vezelay and we needed two nights' accommodation to extend our stay in a gite at the top of the hill near to the basilica. The Compostelle is situated at the bottom of the hill and offered us a cheap and adequate room with no frills but which could not be faulted for the... More

We booked a family room at this hotel. On arrival, the welcome was very warm and we had very good feelings about the place. However, there was a strong smell of damp when we got to the downstairs rooms and the four bed room was tiny. If it had been sunny, things would have been better as we had a... More

its maybe a bit more basic than wot i thought it would be but the rooms on the ground floor with there patio doors leading onto the very pleasant gardens are perfect if you are travelling with a dog.it is very good value for money thou as its based at the foot of this very pretty village.
