This hotel is a small hotel with a good restaurant and breakfast was good but it was all pricey. Our room which was sold as a superior was dark small and had a large beam running diagonally through the room, which meant that you had to remember to duck when walking around the room. Even worse in the middle of... More

This hotel is located a little outside Avallon and can be tricky to find without a good SatNav GPS. It's in a deep narrow gorge by a river and the location is very secluded and quiet, with extensive gardens and private gated parking for your car and valuables. It also closes very early in the evening, so phone ahead if... More

Set in a forest by sparkling rapids this is a spotless and enchanted litle boutique hotel. The cuisine is pricey and worth every cent. The chef and co-owner is rightfully proud of his outstanding local reputation. The rooms are B and B smallish but clean and comfortable . Decor and ecclectic mx of antiques from various eras. Staff very friendly.

We had selected Avallon as a good stopping point after leaving Paris on our way to Beaune. Using the guide from the French "Chateaux & Hotels Collection," we selected first the Hostellerie de la Poste. Even with a GPS, we couldn't find it. But we were completely un-enchanted by the town of Avallon itself, as we drove by Aldi's and... More

As the name of the hotel implies, it is the site of a former watermill and is set in a narrow valley alongside a rushing stream and surrounded by trees. There is therefore not much natural daylight coming into the rooms (about which someone has previously complained) but as far as we are concerned its verdant location adds to its... More

We went to this hotel this year on the recommendation of two Americans we met last year on our travels. The said it was wonderful and they were quite right. It is a lovely hotel in a superb location - so peaceful and relaxing. The restaurant is excellent and Mr Rossi, the chef, is a jolly and friendly character. There... More

My husband and I plus another couple stayed at le Moulin des Ruats for one night on our way back from a trip to Alsace. The website was not very clear as to information on the restaurant and did not show many pictures of the rooms, which is always one of my main criteria for choosing a hotel, but it... More

Wonderful quiet setting, by the side of a stream a few miles from the pretty town of Avallon. We were met by mr Rossi who was very welcoming and took us to our room. The room was small but clean, with a comfy bed and spotless ensuite room. The lounge area and restaurant looked lovely but expensive! We were on... More

We had high hopes for this place and were delighted when we saw it sitting alone beside a creek on a quiet road. It is a nice place but the reception was basically hostile and we have no idea why. It turned out that this was a rare example during two and a half weeks in France of the negative... More
