We spent 3 nights in a classic room which was comfortable, spacious, furnished in traditional style and had a view overlooking the courtyard. We so enjoyed sitting at the little table and having a drink or a coffee after dinner. The spotlessly clean en suite bathroom had a separate shower and bath with lovely toiletries. It was a nice touch... More

What a great place with loads of history! The rooms keep that sense and the Count is a great host. This is a unique opportunity to stay somewhere which has kept so much of it's history. The food at the Farm up the hill is outstanding, so no need to go further afield for evening food. Great swimming pool and... More

Stayed here for 3 nights with my husband to experience a chateau. So unique to meet the Count himself who's a family of the one who built it. He's super friendly and really helpful. The garden and pool area was lovely. Breakfast was so so though. Slept here well and thats the most important. I love that the location is... More

Two nights in this superb Chateau, a welcome by the Count Laurent de Coral in person was very un-expected but he insists I believe. The superior suite on the top floor served by a lift was well appointed overlooking the gardens and the king size bed was most welcoming. Immaculate recently renovated bedrooms en suite were very comfortable as well... More

Stayed for 4 nights, and really loved it. It is steeped in history, but very comfortable. The owner was wonderfully welcoming, gave us a private tour, chatted and showed us around. The gardens and woods are lovely - the pool looks nice, but in May not really an option! The room was comfortable and charming, the bathroom was modern and... More

My wife and I spent 6 nights here with our two teenage daughters. The chateau is beautiful and the welcome was much appreciated after a long journey. We had two neighbouring rooms on the top floor with a separate door closing us off from the rest of the chateau. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable. On two evenings we... More

We stayed 5 days in this somehow unique place. We have been honoured to be received and presented the castle by the M. count Laurent de Coral, the owner of the chateau. We stayed both in the oldest part of the castle and then in a roof third floor room, good rooms. Normal breakfast for chateau. Excellent kept swimming pool.... More

Staying at the Chateau d'Urtubie for a week more than met our expectations. The Chateau has all the charm and atmosphere that one looks for in a European vacation. The setting is idyllic, with lovely grounds and garden, including a quiet and private pool. We had a larger room that was nicely furnished with antiques, and had a very comfortable... More

I reserved two nights in the chateau, and only afterwards did I read the reviews on Trip Advisor. I can hardly add anything new to what others have already said, but I would like to join in the chorus and sing the praises of this magical place. We were welcomed to the chateau by the owner, and given a tour... More

My wife was determined to stay in a beautiful old chateau in France so we researched everything that was available in southern France and we found a lot of duds in the mix. What we found was that many chateaus looked nice on the outside but had been renovated/decorated on the inside to look like a tacky Howard Johnson's or... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Near the beaches of Saint Jean de Luz on the Spanish border, this fortified castle has belonged to the same family since it was built in 1341. Louis XI once visited the château, now renowned for its fine 16th and 18th century architecture and splendid 17th century lounges. It was raised to the status of Viscounty by Louis XIV. In the carefully restored interiors, it is easy to imagine the past splendour of the place. ... more   less
