I agreed to stay here based on the reviews from previous visitors. It was a good place to stay--the first mountain hotel for me. We walked up the long way round on an old hunting trail. We were welcomed with drinks with an amazing view. The rooms are basic and quiet. The meal was just what we needed--soup then tasty... More

We wanted to explore upper Lautenbachtal in more extend and experience the mountain atmosphere more intense. So we decided to stay the night in Berghotel Obersteinberg and reserved a room in advance. We really loved the hospitality, the rooms and the food. Everything was excellent. We were prepared for a basic setting, no electricity, no heating, no warm water, no... More

This hotel is known for its unforgettable views so you better hope that you arrive there on a sunny day as there is not much else to recommend it. The hike up along the Lauterbrunnen Valley is beautiful and relaxing but then becomes strenuous as you head up to Obersteinberg. We were lucky to hike without rain until we reached... More

We arrived at this hotel after a long walk/hike from Lauterbrunnen. We left Lauterbrunnen in a light rain, but it stopped after about an hour and we were in just some cloudy and cool weather. We went through Stechelburg on the way. When we arrived, it began to rain and instead of sitting outside, went in and check in to... More

The hotel is comfortable, if not rustic, but that's what you stay there for. The views of the alps are unforgettable, and you are wonderfully rewarded for your three hour strenuous hike up the mountain. So worth it! The beds were comfortable if not a bit damp but it had been raining for several days prior to our arrival. We... More

We thought people should understand what you are getting into here and think carefully about the weather before going. Rustic hotel that could be fun in good weather, however, a bit hard in bad weather. The reason to go here is for a hike, away from touristy areas and a rustic experience. We unfortunately hit bad weather, hiking in thick... More

We are a family of four (kids age 10 and 13) and did the hike from Gimmelwald to Obersteinberg, stayed overnight, then back down to Stechelberg. We made the reservation at Obersteinberg through the tourist office in Stechelberg and that worked out fine. Be forewarned - the hike from Gimmelwald to Obersteinberg is no joke. It took us 3.5 hours... More

We would have never discovered this place without the recommendation of a collegue. We planned our entire hike around staying at this place. There are several ways to get here (take a different route when you leave the next day!) and the views were absolutely stunning. The hotel is a welcomed sight after a strenuous hike and you are greated... More

Definitely worth the hiking effort to come and stay here. It can be done in a long day-trip back and forth from Murren or Gimmelwald, but you'd miss out on the full experience of this lovely berghaus. Much has been written about this online and I read it all before we came here. It is most definitely true. We came... More

While it was cold and wet out, the Obersteinberg made up for it in its hospitality, quaintness and genuine Swiss charm. Loved coming off our hike and finding our hotel in the most lovely setting possible. To see it settled in with the the magnificent mountain range in 360 degree view was amazing. Hotel staff was very accommodating and did... More
