the hotel is well hidden outside of the town centre. It is very tranquille located on its own spacious grounds. As with most of these places it is hard to get and keep them up to standard. This place is no exception. The woodwork on the outside is in desolate state of replacement. The rooms themselves are spacious with fair... More

I realise that my title could be rather misleading, as I've been to some pretty crummy places in the 60's and 70's, but the Clair de Lune is a blast from the past in the nicest possible sense, in that you are made to feel like a guest rather than a statistic. From the grandiose entrance drive, to the smartly... More

recommended by a friend who travels extensively.. Staying there is akin to staying at your best friends home. The staff are excellent ,especially Miriam and Isabelle. The grounds are superb and well tended. We opted for rooms in the main house-The room was large and the bath had been updated. Our view overlooked the gardens and it was delightful./ The breakfast,... We have stayed in Clair de Lune every year for about twelve years now, but hadn't returned for a couple - in the time we've been away an amazing pool has appeared, with what must be one of the most beautiful natural views in the world - over the Pyrenees, with layers of hills and mountains as far as you... We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights while touring France and Spain with our drivers club. The hotel was exclusively for us, no other guests. I stayed in the Dependence (former hunting lodge) and the very modern room had a huge balcony. Great benefit! The hotel, room, staff, food, grounds, it was all above expectation. Beautifully located, great view,... More

This hotel is a special place. Just outside of Biarritz (it's an easy 5-minute drive to get into town), it feels like you are out on a country estate. The 19th century castle itself is beautiful and charming, and while it shows its age a bit here and there (part of its charm), it is very well appointed. The rooms... More

This place is a gem. The house and grounds are amazing. The rooms are very sumptuous. I was afraid we would be in the middle of no where, but we weren't. It is very very short drive to Biarritz or Bidart, both places with beaches and restaurants and activities. But at the Chateau you feel like you are light years... More

This hotel was easy to find but hard to leave. The gardens are fantastic and the whole atmosphere is very relaxing. The Castle has excellent furnishings and the staff are so helpful. Breakfast on the terrace was a treat. The fact that the chateau does not have a restaurant for evening meals was not a drawback as there is a... More

Picture this....turning into a wide gravelled drive way....tyres crunching the pebbles as you slowly drive down the long drive surrounded by lush green manicured lawns....massive old tree's.....to then find yourself in front of a real life 19th century French chateau! It's the stuff of movies and novels! We don't have such grandeur or architecture of this type in Australia and... More
