I booked a room at the Alton because I was visiting Bordeaux 2 university. This hotel is perfectly located for that. Could not be better. The room was vast, with a large bathroom (bath, not shower. A plus for me). There was even a small kitchen with electric plates and a fridge (unplugged). The bed was not particularly comfortable but... more

Was travelling through France/Italy and booked the Alton via internet the night before. I found the hotel very clinical, almost hospital like. The rooms were ok. The hotel was about 2kms from the centre and although there was a tram stop just outside the hotel, you couldn't buy a ticket at the machine. The hotel was fine for one night. more

We booked a double room through Expedia with the specific instructions that we were on our honeymoon and required a double bed. The Hotel Alton accepted this booking with these conditions, but when we arrived tried to give us two single beds. It took us telling them that we would have our money back and go somewhere else before they... more

This was a lovely Hotel. We had a room that was large enough for 5 adults which was completely comfortable. Great size bathroom and terrific breakfast also. The Hotel is right on the tram line which can take you anywhere in Bordeaux. Would thoroughly recommend this Hotel. more

Was impressed by Hotel Alton and would stay there again. But of course it is a "typical European hotel" so it wasn't anything super fancy, although the bathroom was extremely nice..but for 25 per person per night (75 per night for 3 of us) what else can you ask for?? I think most of the people who write bad reviews... more

We, mum,dad and 14 year old have just returned from a weekend in this hotel and would not return to it. The room was very basic with cheap furniture/fittings, soft small beds. There was road noise all night; we were at the front of the hotel. The restaurant was closed and there are no restaurants in the vicinity. We took... more

We stayed at Hotel Alton for four nights in a three-person bedroom. We paid around £20 each pp and it was definitely worth the money! We had a spacious room with a terrace overlooking the hotel's garden. This was linked to a bathroom and a separate toilet. There didn't seem to be a ventilator so the bathroom steamed up after... more

My father and I travelled to Bordeaux for a short break recently and this was the hotel that I booked. It was the second cheapest option open to me and after finding some poor reviews after making the booking I was a little nervous. My fears were completely unfounded. The staff were very friendly and helpful; the room was basic... more

For the price this was very poor value for money. We booked through Expedia (we have contacted them) on the basis of them catering for vegtarians in their restuarant. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed at weekends ie the two nights we were there. Nowhere did it state this. They also tried to give us one room when we had pre-booked... more

We booked a "grand comfort room". What we got was a small unstable sofa bed in a very basic room. This was unsuitable for 2 middle-aged women taking a holiday together. I went to reception and voiced my concerns only to be told that the hotel was full so they couldn't give us another room and as we had pre-paid... more
