Not a god Value for money. The hotel has an undefined modern style but its not coherent. The view is lovely and it has a nice garden, but the beds are not comfortable, too high, the walls are dirty and the general maintenance is bad. We had reserved for a couple with a child and at checkout an extra charge... More

Stayed during a busy part of late September just prior to the vendage, so unfortunately could not get a reservation for the best Gourmet restaurant (we will return to eat there !) The welcome was superb and the Room was unique, stunning, unusual , comfortable and of very high quality with views over the river (and busy !) roads around... More

We have just returned from a memorable trip to Bordeaux which was marred by our poor accommodation. Our expectations were high as you would expect from a relais et Chateaux hotel. However we were let down by poor service, badly designed rooms, no air conditioning despite the temperatures reaching mid 20's C, hence my husband and I were savaged during... More

St James is not a conventional hotel. It's best understood as a Michelin-starred restaurant with some architecturally remarkable rooms attached. What it's not is a hotel designed for short stays, or a business with any empathy for its guests. The building is superb. It sits on a valley on the opposite bank of the Garonne from Bordeaux. Entry is through... More

Dear all first the postive part: - Architecture is interesting and somehow amazing - Location is marvelous, view and landscape outstanding - Some of the staff (see later) is really friendly and looks after the customer (e.g. bar, dinner) The negative part: - The maintenance of the hotel (building, rooms installation) is inaccaptable (rosted metals, screen can be moved, sun-protection... OK, this was going to be the splurge for my family before leaving France. It looked really luxe was designed by jean Nouvel and we sprung for the upgraded (newly renovated rooms) The rooms were modern, but hardly recently upgraded the B&O sound system (which was broken) included an audio cassette deck, so that ought to give some indication of... l located in a beautiful village with superb views overlooking magnificent bordeaux, set in most attractive and very well maintained grounds. T he interior is very stark and most uninviting ,access to the bedroom is apaling , the room itself has two things going for it namely the view and a superb bathroom . This is a truly great hotel. I stayed here with my other half in August 2005 and I have to say that I was not disappointed. Yes, the rooms are pretty minimalistic. That's the style! If you are looking for antiques and plush furniture then try elsewhere. This is a modern, stylish hotel. We loved the long, dark pool but... More

Let's start with the positive. A beautiful setting with a gorgeous view over Bordeaux. The little church next door is a gem. And the place is quiet. The decorator of the hotel and the rooms has opted for effect. But to paraphrase a Paul Simon song: "I found no comfort there......." The hotel room was minimalist and stark. One needed... More
