If desecrating the interior of a building of historic and cultural importance is a crime then why is the arbiter of this dreadful 'refurbishment' not in jail? Gone are the wonderfully upholstered alcoves, resplendent mahogany fittings and bohemian atmosphere - replaced by an abundance of grey paint, tacky imitation flooring (thankfully an area of ceramic floor tiles was spared) and... This is pub for past and present students, full of nostalgia. The Salutation is a traditional pub hidden behind the university buildings on Oxford Road. Good range of beer. Food menu typical but with a hint of those far off days when you were a student. Try the bowl of chips if you're in a hurry. Always welcome on a... More

Been waiting for an hour and 20 minutes for fish and chips, still waiting for it now, I could have caught the fish myself, gutted it, cooked it, grown the potatoes, chopped and oven cooked them and still had time for a nap. Can't believe this is happening right now. The food is alright at a push, never coming here... More

Pub now owned by MMU. Came with friends for lunch. We ordered at 1pm and our last plate of food has just arrived nearly an hour and a half later. Pub isn't even full of people and the food was mediocre to say the least. To comment on service: there was none. Staff were rude and seemed rushed off their... More

Love this pub it's actually a hidden gem! Such a relaxing charming place to just chill with a pint of real ale. We also had an excellent meal. Brilliant pizza at a brilliant price. Without fail we will be visiting again and would recommend it to others.

Myself and prospective student son arrived here hours later than expected, after a very long and arduous journey from Brighton. We were welcomed with smiles and greetings from the two young women working in the bar there. Being in need of refreshing beverages we were informed that as a guest we were entitled to 10% off all food and drinks! We... More

This is a nice pub with a good atmosphere created by landlord Gethin. The rooms are cheap as well and ideal for a budget stay in Manchester. You are not too far from the centre and there are buses and shops nearby.

I arrived in the middle of December's pouring rain! My room was clean and, unlike so many places I've visited, the heating was already on. The staff were friendly to perfection, despite the pub being packed to the rafters. I was so impresed I couldn't leave without buying a box of Belgian chocolates, just to say 'Thank You' once more.... More
