I love this place I have been going on and off for years. I have noticed that they have recently done a refurbishment and I am told the rooms are being refurbishes too. You can guarantee a good nights stay and a good meal at the OX. I usually go in for the cask ales after work. I went in... more

We were in Manchester to see Pink and were travelling on to Linc/Notts so needed a base for 2 nights, Fri & Sat. The Ox appeared to be the ONLY accommodation in Manchester that was a traditional 'Inn'. Plenty of huge hotels but nowhere with character. The booking process was clumsy, but all was fine when we got there. The... more

In a city where centrally located characterful budget accommodation seems curiously hard to find, the Ox is an option worth considering. It's an old pub with bedrooms upstairs that's been reincarnated as a gastropub, in a splendid location in Manchester's most historic district -- Castlefield, in the southwest corner of the city centre, one of the earliest post-industrial areas of... more

rooms are basic, no frills, but totally acceptable for the price. location is fine, easy walking distance to city center. when we made the reservations, i double checked with the person taking the reservation to make sure they had wi-fi, and he assured me that there was free wifi in all the rooms. when we got there, we were unable... more

Location- ideal, Castlefield, 10 mins walk down Deansgate to Printworks, or diagonally across to china town. Parking - next door, cheapest in city centre Pub- welcoming setting, could sit there for hours - good choice beers Staff- eager to please all plus points +++ Regrettably it’s the quality of the rooms that let them down. Do not look down at... more

First of all...I would say the website is a bit mis-leading (and frustrating. Attractive, but kinda useless). If you're expecting a boutique-type property, that's not what the Ox is. What the Ox IS, is a few rooms, above a nice gastro-pub, that are clean, simple and as far as I can tell, reasonably priced. One criticism I DO have is... more

Before I describe the accommodation let me give some positives about 'The Ox'. The pub is great, very traditional but stylish, the food looks stunning and the staff were friendly. Now on to the accommodation - We are a group of friends who grew up together but now live in different towns so it was a few drinks and a... more

I went to manchester for a party so only needed somewhere to sleep. I was genuinely shocked to see how pricey Manchester has become over the last 10 years and didn't really want to pay over £100 for a bed. The Ox fitted the bill. The staff were very friendly. I opted for a premium double room (around £65) and... more

The Ox is a nice bar to eat and drink in although it's a bit pricey if I'm not in the mood to waste my hard earned cash! There are a few studenty types there, but probably just the rich ones. It has a nice ambience though with good beers and wines. When we arrived it was quite busy and... more

We arrived at the Ox on a Thursday night and the pub was fairly busy...at first it was hard to tell what to do to check in, but after a bit of standing around we were sorted out and shown our room and given all the necessary information by a very friendly woman. The room was clean and the bed... more
