Excellent location just a short walk from Picadilly station and situated near Picadilly Square, Canal Street, shops and the Arndale Centre. Also spoilt for choice with nearby places to get comestables, eg Tesco Metro just around the corner. Spent 2 nights there due to business. First impressions were good. Grand frontage, ok reception and bar/lounge area. Staff were polite but... more

this hotel has an excellent location and looks impresive from the outside. However the reception area is really dowdy, but the bar and eating area feels fresh and new. The rooms are very tired and desperately need updating. I felt the staff were most helpfull and totally disagree with the previous reviewer, I found they couldn't do enough for me. more

This hotel was booked via Orbiz for around 49.00 which is good value and was booked just so I would have somewhere to stay before my meeting the next day after a long journey by car. Unfortunately driving was cheaper than by train at short notice. The hotel looks grand the word being it was very grand in the past.... more

The bar/restaurant area downstairs is quite presentable although slightly depressing. The rooms however are tiny and  have peeling paintwork, cracked and filthy bathrooms, broken air conditioning units and are generally dirty. They should have paid me to stay there not the other way around. more

we checked out after a couple of nights! the hotel is horrible, rooms are super small (my bag could not pass between the bed and the wall). very bad smell in the room, old carpet and very old bathroom! Never been in something like that, disgusting...and considering the price not cheap at all (around GBP 100). Please...dont go there.... more

I had to travel to manchester for business and when I was informed I would be staying at the Thistle was quite happy and looking forward to the stay. The hotel is located within 5 minutes walk of Manchester Picadilly station on Portand Street. Check in was easy. The staff not over friendly. We were asked at check in if... more

This hotel was absolutely the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed in. Highlights of my guestroom: - The wallcovering was peeling from the walls. - Mold was growing from the air conditioning vent. - The ironing board cover was stained and dirty. - The bathtub was stained black. - The carpet was soiled. I booked this hotel because of the... more

Stayed there whilst at the football weekend starting 20th Feb. Arrived at just after lunchtime and was told the room would not be ready til later on in the afternoon as they were busy-a theme that ran through the weekend listening to others who were booking in!! After waiting an age on the one lift that was in operation we... more
