This hotel looks nothing like it does on there website. Everything is very dated and needs a good upgrade. The outside isn't much better either. We complained about our first room as the shower was covered in rust and we were moved to another room which was better but still not really what we were expecting. Restaurant is ok but... more

Its Cheap and its cheerful. Yes it could do with a refurb but then they'd have to put their prices up. 2 rooms 4 people total £80 B&B on a sunday night, at the right side of Manchester to get back reasonably quickly from a concert, absolutely fine! Its rooms are dated but clean and the breakfast is hot and plentyful... more

The only thing missing was Basil himself. Truely aweful hotel. Small, unkept room (didn't look like it had been fully cleaned after previous guests stay). Shower mat in a disgusting state. Interior of the hotel dirty, outdated and almost unliveable! Please do not visit. (will be adding the bath mat photo in due course!) more

Noisy clanking pipes ALL NIGHT. No sleep. Smelly horrible rooms and when I did complain in the morning - NOTHING was done. No apology, no refund. Nothing. Absolutely the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. more

We arrived for New Years Eve Party at 3.00 pm . Disappointed to find out that no bar food was available.(not even crisp/nuts) Room was dirty, last occupants rubbish still in room. (old makeup brush, Vic sinex tube, bottle tops and toffee papers were taken to reception before we unpacked our bags. Toilet seat was held on with sticking plaster.... more

I stayed here with a few girl mates for my birthday. It is what you pay for, the beds were comfortable and clean. The shower was abit tempermental, hot one second cold the next. We were not told of a party until arriving either and it is a regular occurance, however where we were staying we hardly noticed the noise.... more

I really wish I had heeded other reviews about this dreadful hotel rather than be taken in by all the flannel on their website. We arrived at 2pm, checking in time to be told 'Oh by the way there is a disco on till 2am and on of your rooms is directly over it!. There were no other rooms available.... more

Okay, the walls are pretty thin and it looks a bit run down and the lift is tiny but for that price its a perfectly fine place to spend a night or two. In saying that, the bed we had was actually very comfortable, the bathroom and bedroom were both clean and we had a fresh supply of towels and... more

initially going to try 5 nights as I'm working in Manchester - tried to sleep - but the condition of the room is disgusting, suspicious stains and patches on the bed sheets have really freaked me out... Bathroom seems cleanish... Very poor sound proofing - can hear the occupants in the next room doing their business on the toilet which... more

Just the other side of the motorway from Eccles (with its tram terminus), this is usually the cheapest hotel in Manchester (I once stayed at the hotel at Old Trafford cricket ground with breakfast for just under 30 quid). I've stayed at the Monton serveral times, as it was cheap, but have had no real problems. Music for parties/theme nights... more
