It was old style elegant and I very much appreciated the classical music playing in the reception and the restaurant as background music. There is just too much pop music tat thrust at us at every location these days and I for one would never listen to it of my own choice so this was a definite plus point. However... More

Dear Guest, I would like to thank you for your constructive criticism regarding your recent stay. It is a rarity that our reception staff forget to mention the discount for breakfast during check in. However, thanks to your review we now have posters displaying the reception breakfast discount in and our reception area. As the Britannia Hotel Portland Street is... More

Stayed in an "Executive" room at the Britannia Manchester (room 528) on 17th May. While the hotel may be cheaper than many in central Manchester there is no excuse for such appalling conditions. The owners and management are making false claims about this hotel. There was no air ventilation, the stains on walls and carpets are beyond belief and at... More

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. Firstly, I have reviewed all logs and was disappointed to see that no complaint was made to our Duty Managers during your stay. It is a shame that we were not given the opportunity to correct the situation. All of your comments have been passed on to my... More

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. As you have stated we do have different types of rooms. The room that you stayed is classed as an economy room and is an internal room. Therefore, it has no windows. The information posted on any site other than our own is not regulated by our staff.... More

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. When booking your rooms it is stated that economy rooms do not have windows. However, upgrades are available for a small fee from reception. I find it strange that you are criticising the staff for not being great when in your own words, a member of staff spent... More

I had a room at the top floor under the roof. No windows. No air con. No way to sleep. Anything else would have been better. More

I stayed at this hotel for my boyfriends birthday. We were visiting old Trafford, which the hotel wasn't anywhere near but that wasn't a problem as we caught a tram. We arrived at the hotel around 5pm, and checked in fine. We were told we were on the first floor. As we walked down the corridor towards our room it... More

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I have discussed your concerns to the Front of House Manager regarding your room allocation. It would seem that all other standard class rooms were smoking rooms, which is why you were given a smoking room. We are one of a few hotels in Manchester City Centre that... More

Stayed on 5th May. Upon entering the hotel you are greeted with a dramatic staircase and to be honest it looks quite impressive. Check-in was fine, though very slow. I went straight in the Compton Bar which again was OK, spacious, comfortable, TV's showing sports - all pretty standard but again it looks nice. After a drink we went to... More

I'm a fan of the much under-rated Britannia hotels - they're great value, and the rooms, though tired, are usually clean, and while nothing special, are perfectly good enough. I stayed in the city centre branch alone after a night out with work. No problem checking in, even after 11pm and I found my room easily enough. Wehether it was... More

We checked into a room that was noisy due to the single glazing and also smelt of cabbage. We moved rooms which was better as it was quieter and didn't smell, but the decor was old and the furniture mismatched and damaged. Only one lift worked, for which there was a constant long wait for. The bed was uncomfortable to... More
