I'd booked the hotel to stay after a night out, so wanted to make use of the 11am check-out time. At 6:50am the service lift next to my room began working and it became impossible to sleep even with ear plugs. I called reception and after 2 calls and 1/2 hour a manager visited - he agreed that it wasn't... more

Well, if it is looking old on the outside, it is looking old and event a bit derelict on the inside too and especially inside the rooms. In the old days it was probably looking majestic, but that was a long time ago. There is a lot of wood under the carpets of this hotel and most of it creaks.... more

I book a single room, and got the room on the 5th floor, at the end of the corridor. It was quite peaceful and I didn't hear any noise through the night. Room was small but enough for 1 person. Coffee, tea, chocolate were available and replaced daily. Bathroom was newly renovated and clean. Apart from the matrass which need... more

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. We checked on the internet before booking and decided that we would stay there because the photographs were excellent but to our shock and disappointment the reality was much different. The carpet in the room was very dirty. Full of crumbs and dust. The room was far too hot and the window... more

We stayed for one night as we were meeting relatives. We were upgraded? from a standard windowless room to a executive room with window No 310 joy of joys. First impression was the furniture came off a Agatha Christie film set, very 1920s with loose handles on the drawers. The bedside lamp was in sections (all loose). The duvet covers... more

A shame that such a beautiful example of mid Victorian industrial architecture, with an interesting history, should not have been given the grand rooms and decoration it deserves. The halls smelt like an institution, and were wallpapered accordingly. The 'executive' room I had booked was small, nothing matched, it was shabby and stained, and I even found what I thought... more

I was travelling to Manchester with colleagues for an awards ceremony and our travel administrator booked the hotel. We only needed a room for the night. It was cheap and cheerful and very close to the venue for the dinner which was probably the saving grace. The room was clean but in need of a lick of paint and new... more

I booked this online simply because of the price, and then naturally decided to check reviews on here AFTERWARD. Having done that, I wasn't exactly brimming with confidence and I was expecting the worst - as you may well be too, having read all the previous reviews... But I'm happy to report, my fears were all for nothing. There was... more

In all of our forty years of travel we have never stayed in such a dreadful hotel - the location was its only saving grace. The room was not only dirty, but shabby and in need of a complete makeover. The noise from the clubs kept us awake on the Saturday night, even though our room was at the back... more
