We stayed here valentines weekend, and it's a fantastic hotel! James was a wonderful host, helping with our bags, treating us to a glass of wine and scones on arrival, showing us to the rooms, booking us a taxi in the evening and advising of where to go. Nothing seemed too much trouble; certainly five star hospitality! The house and... More

Had a lovely time at the weekend, We felt utterly spoilt by having a wonderful greeting from James including wine and scones. Proper coffee, real milk and jelly beans in the room, the most gorgeous toiletries in the bathroom. As for breakfast so much choice it was all wonderful. We will be staying again hopefully with more time to totally... More

We stayed one night en route to Edinburgh for the New Year. The first thing to strike us was James' attention to detail. We were welcomed with mulled wine wine, mince pies and James' hospitality. The decor was beautifully designed and excellently completed. We didn't eat dinner but it is, apparently, very good. The breakfast was very well done. We... More

It seems a little trite to say this is a bed and breakfast, when it is in fact, so much more. The host James and his sidekicks are just the sort of people one wants to meet when travelling. Nothing is too much and you are quickly taken into the fold and made to feel part of the scene. Naturally... More

The other reviews have summed the place up perfectly but I just had to praise it myself. My partner and I stayed for one night for our anniversary and wished we had stayed longer. The second we arrived James greeted us with drinks and homemade cake (delicious!) and showed us his extensive DVD collection in case we fancied watching one... More

The Ashton calls itself a B & B but it's really a small and exclusive boutique hotel. There are five bedrooms and a guests' sitting room, each luxuriously decorated by the owner (a film set designer) with a level of bling that is just enough to make you feel as if you are a star in your own movie. The... More

We stayed here as a family celebrating a birthday and filled the whole house, which made it especially enjoyable. Parking is very easy. There is a small but pretty garden back & front which affords lovely views from the rooms. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The room we had was outstanding. Large,... More

Dear Dopeyhoney, it was an absolute delight to have you & your family stay, so pleased you enjoyed your celebration. As you say the house makes there perfect venue for small family gatherings, I make a point of not being intrusive so you can relax & enjoy the place as your own, (although I am just next door if needed.)... There isn't much to add to the other reviews. However I do feel it necessary to add our own endorsement of the Ashton. As has been said James is thoughtful but not intrusive. For example we were staying when Lancaster were having their fireworks display and James had booked us a table in a restaurant close in case we wanted... More

Dear Udston, So pleased you liked your room, the Attic is the largest of the rooms & very popular for that reason. From talking about some of the other places you usually stay at your review is a real compliment. Just for anyone reading this for tips the pub was The Bay Horse at Forton, independent, family run, local food... More

As other reviewers have said; you get what you pay for. The Ashton is not cheap, but is comparable in price to staying at a large chain hotel like a Marriott - but that's where the similarity ends. From the lovely welcome with drinks & homemade cake (seriously amazingly carrot cake, GBBO standard) to the beautiful, immaculately clean rooms, there's... More

Dear Liz, So glad you've found us, next time you're in Lancaster just give me a call or use our online booking. That way you'll get the best rate & an upgrade if I can. Just for information for readers I do serve an informal supper Monday to Thursday for people who don't want to go out, which I serve... More
