4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2012 NEW

Visited the Tickled Trout on a business trip to Lancashire and it turned out to be a great base with good road access. Staff were very friendly on-check in and the room was a good size, clean and well appointed. Dinner was good on both nights and my first mornings buffet breakfast. However, (and I always try to honest) breakfast... More

Having stayed at Macdonald's Roxburgh Hotel in Edinburgh which was an excellent experience I found a recent stay at The Tickled Trout in complete contrast. My wife and I had been booked in for a one night stay by the 'Lochs and Glens' organisation. We found that the room had only been serviced for one person although it was a... More

while the hotel offers a cheap deal this has to be tempered by what is offered. Overall there is a powerful smell of air freshener (?) which appears to be masking something more unpleasant. The evening meal was odd - trying to get the advertised food which the waitress denied all knowledge of - and then having a vegetable curry... More

This hotel is quite old but there have been some recent updates to keep it fresh. The rooms were clean and modern, however, the bed was very uncomfortable. You have to go down a series of steps with your luggage to get to the kifts, which really made no sense. They wanted the equivalent of $25 for the breakfast buffet... More

iamstoked22 Many thanks for your feedback. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. We are currently around 50% of the way in our room refurbishment plan and this would have included the room in which you stayed. I will have the bed checked ! We wish you well on your travels and hope we see you again... More

We stayed here with friends for two nights on our way to the Lake District.I used to stay here on a regular basis many years ago when I was working in England.I know the Scots are supposed to be thrifty but on the second night there was no heating. When we reported this at reception they said there had been another... RoBBo44Melbourne Thank you for the feedback. I'm sorry that you had a chilly experience on your second night. We did have a serious boiler failure in April but all repaired now. We are expecting to commence a major refurbishment of the Hotel public areas very shortly. Please let me know when you are next staying up North so that we... More

Stayed here on a saturday night as we were at a wedding close by. Hotel in great location for M6 and only 5-10 mins into Preston City Centre. Room was a good size for the money and had everything we needed. Didn't eat or drink here however, so can't comment on that. Sorry! Would recommend as stop-over or last minute... More

My self and two other girls were road tripping into England for the weekend. Around 10 at night one of the fan belts on the car broke making continuing to our planned destination impossible. We had managed to get into the petrol station next to this hotel before the car comepletely stopped running. The management and staff at the McDonald... More

Stopped here last night to break our journey home to Scotland. Staff were very pleasant helpful and attentive. We were hungry and the 'Jumbo' Scampi looked like a good bet. It came in a little metal basket with a handful of limp 'rustic' chips and some tartar sauce on the side. The scampi was delicious (the 'rustic' chips were not)... More

STMcA Thank you for your feedback. The scampi dish is freshly prepared by us using Scottish langoustine tails so I hope the taste was good. I will investigate the portion sizes for this and the local cheese selection. I am pleased to hear the staff were pleasant and helpful. Do let me know if you are passing by again. Regards... More
