A hotel with a warm welcome and plenty of character. Manageress most obliging as were bar and restaurant staff. Our room clean and compact with comfortable bed. Breakfast with good selection. Only concern was evening meal. We chose off 9.99 menu for 2. Maybe a mistake. Food over microwaved. Should have complained but for that price what can u expect.... More

You can certainly understand why it is said these premises go back to 1696. It's frontage is more than quaint and being set alongside The Abbey adds to the overall picturesque scenery of the area. The rear of the property is a bit of a let down however. Two barns overlooking the car park have been converted into a number... More

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review of The Bell, following your recent visit. I am pleased to read that you enjoyed your visit, both to The Bell and to Tewkesbury. The 2 barns are actually a purpose built annexe to the hotel, which joins the main building, incorporating the main restaurant as well as 18 of the 24 rooms... More

booked here for a nights stopover- dbl room with breakfast. Rooms need a bit of upgrading. We got a room in the annexe entered via the car park and overlooking the internal courtyard. As the courtyard is the outside bar area this can get very noisy and even with the windows shut its hard to hold a conversation. The bathroom... More

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review of The Bell. I have asked housekeeping to give all bathrooms a jolly good clean and we have a maintenace program that incorporates the painting of all our rooms over the next 12 months. I am looking at stronger lighting in bedrooms, so thank you for bringing this to my attention. We do... More

We booked a one night stay at short notice in September. We have stayed at Old English Inns before so knew what to expect in terms of rooms etc. Floorboards creaked, the bathroom was small and the decor was tired in places. But cleanliness and shower were fine and this is a rambling old inn (not a modern premier inn).... More

Dear Guest, Great to hear what a fantastic time you had. When I read your title 'Old and creaky but full of positives' I thought for a moment you were describing me ! ( It's certainly how I feel some days). Great food and drink and good service is what we strive to achieve and it sounds like we got... More

i like this hotel very much as it has lots going for it, it has character, charm and some great staff, check in was very good as was the food (breakfast & evening meal were sampled) my only disappointment was the room, we stayed in room 10 which was alongside the kitchen extract fan and this was noisy until about... Dear Guest, Thank you for your review for your stay at The Bell. I am pleased to read that your food (dinner and breakfast) were enjoyable. I am sorry that you were slightly disturbed by the kitchen fan, sadly a necessity for the kitchen, but does get turned off promptly at night, so peaceful nights sleep is ensured for all... More

Stayed there for 2 nights before and after a wedding Positives: friendly staff and location, breakfast decent choices and well presented. Something of a labyrinth e.g. room 12 5 minute's walk from room 14! Tewkesbury is lovely Lovely from the outside, lovely location (yards from the river and abbey) 5 minutes walk from the beautiful centre but... Negatives: the decor... More

Dear Guest, Thank you for your comments. We've given the bar area a complete make-over ( pictures soon to be posted on TA), complete with a new position for the TV ( now showing Sky & BT Sports), creating a sports lounge, separate private snug area with comfy sofa and welcoming fresh, clean bar area. So hopefully The Bell is... More

We took family here for Sunday lunch, what a BIG let down. The menu was varied and enough choice for children. Three of the adults ordered roast beef, well it could have been horse, it was so tough and chewy. We each had 1 piece of beef approx 4 x 3" and another half of this size, this was full... More

Dear Guest, I am sorry to read your review. I do remember speaking to you after your meal, and taking 20% off the bill. I raised the issue that you had with Greeneking food development and I have been assured that this should not have happend. I have also spoken to Chef and he assures me that both potatoes and... Worn out, terrible! Found stains on duvet showing through the duvet cover. Dried paint on lino in bathroom. Had to step over buckets and cleaning equipment in the mid morning after trailing through a rabbit warren. Dirty corridor walls...cracked paint. Floorboards creaky. Just disappointing! !! We will never ever return!

Dear Guest, I am so sorry that your stay at The Bell wasn't as expected. So what have we done to put this right ? All duvets have been checked and it appears that this was an isolated case. ( The duvet has been replaced). Paint on lino has been removed by my maintenace team, and the painting of the... More
