We really enjoyed this hotel even the quirky bits. It has been preserved to a very high standard. The gardens are lovely and the river is just at the bottom of the garden. The staff were wonderful thank you all for a very nice break. Sudley Castle and Gardens is well worth a visit and only approx 15 mins drive... More

One of Wetherspoon's nicest buildings. Stopped off for a bite to eat on a sunny Saturday evening returning home to the Midlands. The place was heaving and it was difficult to get to the bar to order. However, the food arrived very quickly and was very tasty. The building has many nooks and crannies and we chose to sit away... More

A great stay at this excellent Wetherspoons Inn. We were greeted at reception by a lovely lady who told us we had the best room in the hotel - Room 201 which has wonderful views to the Malvern Hills and big picture windows. Gardens were very pretty and well maintained. Superb range of ales and all in all excellent value... More

This ancient hotel is located right in Tewkesbury. Part of this historic hotel dates back to around the 14th or 15th century. The rooms are clean but nothing flash. In short, it is an economical place for the night. The staff was most pleasant and polite. The breakfast was basic, but good, and was ordered from the bar.

Thank you for your review. You are right, the oldest part of the hotel dates back to around 1380, so ancient indeed! We are pleased to hear that you found our staff pleasant and polite and will pass your comments on to the rest of the team. Many Thanks The Royal Hop Pole Team More

Nice welcoming Wetherspoons pub/hotel. Food excellent value for money with a range of beers available. Parking to rear ( you have to pay) reasonable. Have used the venue many times over the past couple of years.

This is another very good Wetherspoons pub situation in an old character building. There is a huge selection of hand pulled ales and a very large and pleasant beer garden to the rear that stretches right down to the river. On a sunny day its a very nice place to spend an afternoon. Very good pub. And very busy as... More

I didn't stay here so cannot comment on anything to do with being a guest. However I did come for a fantastic breakfast at excellent value. Came before in the winter and the standard was poor, but today the good is really hot, tasty and nice. The place was busy and was told it would take 15-20 minutes for the... More

Myself and my wife stayed here for one night while traveling home from Newbury. The hotel is run by Wetherspoons but don't let that put you off!!!!, the hotel is lovely. It is a hotel dating back to the Tudor period and has been developed in a very sympathetic way retaining all of its character and old charm. The first... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This well-known landmark is an amalgamation of historic buildings dating from the 15th and 18th centuries, known as a number of names, including The Crown during King Henry VIII's reign. However, eventually it was named The Royal Hop Pole when Queen Mary stayed in 1937 and gave it the official 'Royal.' Charles Dickens even mentions The Royal Hop Pole in his first novel, The Pickwick Papers. Other interesting information and pictures are located all over the hotel, including information on how the Medieval Banqueting Hall was discovered when the hotel was recently refurbished. The Royal Hop Pole has its own beautiful garden which leads to the banks of The River; there you can see picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the Malverns. ... more   less
