We had room 107, receptionist said it was lovely. It was more than lovely, a really beautiful room with one wall preserved behind glass for historical purposes. A huge family room for two adults and 2 children. We also had room 102 for relatives, again another lovely room. A huge twin. Pub noise never bothered us, but in fairness we... More

The position is excellent, opening onto a main street at the front, so handy for exploring the quirky byways and alleyways of the town. It was very hot while we were there, so we were delighted with the long, airy garden leading down to the river and open views beyond. Best of both worlds! The room was clean and comfortable... More

Despite the window offering no views.. except roof and pipes we were lucky to be in the restored medieval barn. The wall painting was beautiful and the timbered ceiling fabulous. It was a very hot night and thankfully a good fan was in the room.. The only downside for me were the feather and down pillows and quilt not mentioned... More

Thank you for your review - its great to know that you enjoyed your stay with us - you must have been in room 108 which is steeped in history! It is unfortunate that, due to the nature of the building, some of our rooms dont have a fantastic view, but hope that the history and charm compensates for this.... More

We really enjoyed this hotel even the quirky bits. It has been preserved to a very high standard. The gardens are lovely and the river is just at the bottom of the garden. The staff were wonderful thank you all for a very nice break. Sudley Castle and Gardens is well worth a visit and only approx 15 mins drive... More

One of Wetherspoon's nicest buildings. Stopped off for a bite to eat on a sunny Saturday evening returning home to the Midlands. The place was heaving and it was difficult to get to the bar to order. However, the food arrived very quickly and was very tasty. The building has many nooks and crannies and we chose to sit away... More

We were greeted at reception by a lovely lady who told us we had the best room in the hotel - Room 201 which has wonderful views to the Malvern Hills and big picture windows. This ancient hotel is located right in Tewkesbury. Part of this historic hotel dates back to around the 14th or 15th century. The rooms are clean but nothing flash. In short, it is an economical place for the night. The staff was most pleasant and polite. The breakfast was basic, but good, and was ordered from the bar.

Nice welcoming Wetherspoons pub/hotel. Food excellent value for money with a range of beers available. Parking to rear ( you have to pay) reasonable. Have used the venue many times over the past couple of years.

This is another very good Wetherspoons pub situation in an old character building. There is a huge selection of hand pulled ales and a very large and pleasant beer garden to the rear that stretches right down to the river. On a sunny day its a very nice place to spend an afternoon. Very good pub. And very busy as... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This well-known landmark is an amalgamation of historic buildings dating from the 15th and 18th centuries, known as a number of names, including The Crown during King Henry VIII's reign. However, eventually it was named The Royal Hop Pole when Queen Mary stayed in 1937 and gave it the official 'Royal.' Charles Dickens even mentions The Royal Hop Pole in his first novel, The Pickwick Papers. Other interesting information and pictures are located all over the hotel, including information on how the Medieval Banqueting Hall was discovered when the hotel was recently refurbished. The Royal Hop Pole has its own beautiful garden which leads to the banks of The River; there you can see picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the Malverns. ... more   less
