Spent the night in the Hop Pole on Good Friday and was fortunate to be given room 108 which I think is in the oldest part. One could imagine the history of the room as you laid on the comfortable bed. Reception staff brilliant and even though we complained about a smell came up with a solution straight away. Food... When you feel that a good breakfast is required the Wetherspoon Pub is always a good option but this venue is in a fantastic old building which think must have been saved by becoming a Wetherspoon Hotel. They open early, the cost is reasonable, the food is of good quality and service is always prompt. I only wish they would... More

My family and I recently enjoyed a short break in Tewkesbury. We stayed in hotel accommodation outside the town which meant a drive or a taxi journey into town on a daily basis. On our third morning our six family members enjoyed superb breakfasts at the Royal Hop Pole hotel which is ideally located in the centre of town. As... More

Our first experience of a Wetherspoons Hotel, and overall the Royal Hop Pole 'delivered' on most, if not all levels; from the extremely helpful receptionist to the excellent standard of accommodation. The Hop Pole offers excellent value and enjoys a warm, friendly atmosphere. The food is typical Wetherspoon fayre and the hearty breakfast selection really sets you up for the... More

I am actually writing this on behalf of my parents who aren't keen on the internet, but wanted this to be mentioned publicly; they stayed at the Royal Hop Pole during the last weekend in March and they were very happy with their stay. They specifically mentioned the delightful receptionist, the value for money with their evening meals and the... More

I was not sure what to expect as I had never stayed at a Wetherspoon's hotel before. However, to say I was pleasantly surprised would be somewhat of an understatement. The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful to the point of helping me up to my room with bags. The room itself was a single on the top floor and... More

Thank you very much for your feedback. Its lovely to hear that you enjoyed your stay at the Royal Hop Pole Hotel and plan to return when you are next working in the area. Due to the nature of the building, every room is different (some are slightly smaller then others) but all are up to the same standard. We... More

Our recent 2 night stay at at the Royal Hop Poles was on every level far better than expected. A warm welcome at the hotel reception set the standard and was replicated by every member of staff encountered during our stay. OK, our room wasn't the biggest but overall was pretty comfortable and above all clean. Beware though, the hotel... More

If you want to stay somewhere comfortable with modern amenities but character this is perfect. There is parking available too. The rooms are beautifully decorated with modern bathrooms. To get to our rooms we had to walk through a lovely high ceiling-ed hall with beams and original features. They have managed to inter-twine new features with old brilliantly. The water... More

I called one hotel, not The Royal H P, and the telephone was answered with a "Yeah". I asked if I had reached the hotel, and the reply was "Who are you?". I gave my name and asked "Who are you?" What fun this was going to be I thought. The response was "What do you want?". I replied that... More

Stayed one night for a function in the town, so did not really use the pubs bar area, felt it was a shame that they shut at 11 on a Friday night when other pubs in the area are open later. Thank you for your review. We also feel its a shame that we can only serve until 11pm, but unfortunately it is due to our Premises License. We do offer a 'breakfast deal' which does include a drink, but this only includes some of the breakfast choices available on the menu. We are pleased to hear that you liked the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This well-known landmark is an amalgamation of historic buildings dating from the 15th and 18th centuries, known as a number of names, including The Crown during King Henry VIII's reign. However, eventually it was named The Royal Hop Pole when Queen Mary stayed in 1937 and gave it the official 'Royal.' Charles Dickens even mentions The Royal Hop Pole in his first novel, The Pickwick Papers. Other interesting information and pictures are located all over the hotel, including information on how the Medieval Banqueting Hall was discovered when the hotel was recently refurbished. The Royal Hop Pole has its own beautiful garden which leads to the banks of The River; there you can see picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the Malverns. ... more   less
