We had a night here and it was ok. The bed was not a double only a Queen but that's ok,my only real problem was the shelves next to the bed, when you turned over you hit your face on it,so not a great nights sleep. Other than that a clean ok room.

Thank you for your review. All of our double beds here are 135cm x 200cm, but agree they can appear smaller as most beds tend to be king size these days. However we do have a superking available upon request. We are sorry to here that you had a bad nights sleep due to the shelving, We will look into... More

The Royal Hop Pole a stunning place to stay the staff are really helpful. garden is beautiful and backs onto the river Avon with rowers and barges taking a slow meander, The rooms are very well turned out, The building is medieval and has been sympathetically transformed into a great place. Albeit no air-conditioning they supplied fans in the rooms.... More

Initially I was a bit concerned about "staying in a pub" but this was where my group was staying. Having read the reviews I prepared ahead. The hotel is full of character, well decorated balancing original features with modern design and convenience. Great experience from start to end. Requested a room away from the bar area - single room 121.... More

We had room 107, receptionist said it was lovely. It was more than lovely, a really beautiful room with one wall preserved behind glass for historical purposes. A huge family room for two adults and 2 children. We also had room 102 for relatives, again another lovely room. A huge twin. Pub noise never bothered us, but in fairness we... More

Thank you for your lovely review. We agree room 107 certainly is a gem, with a glass covered wall revealing the medieval wall paintings that were hidden for so many years. Its sounds as though your visit here was just as it should be, and we hope to welcome you back again soon. Many Thanks The Royal Hop Pole Team More

The position is excellent, opening onto a main street at the front, so handy for exploring the quirky byways and alleyways of the town. It was very hot while we were there, so we were delighted with the long, airy garden leading down to the river and open views beyond. Best of both worlds! The room was clean and comfortable... More

Despite the window offering no views.. except roof and pipes we were lucky to be in the restored medieval barn. The wall painting was beautiful and the timbered ceiling fabulous. It was a very hot night and thankfully a good fan was in the room.. The only downside for me were the feather and down pillows and quilt not mentioned... More

Thank you for your review - its great to know that you enjoyed your stay with us - you must have been in room 108 which is steeped in history! It is unfortunate that, due to the nature of the building, some of our rooms dont have a fantastic view, but hope that the history and charm compensates for this.... More

One of Wetherspoon's nicest buildings. Stopped off for a bite to eat on a sunny Saturday evening returning home to the Midlands. The place was heaving and it was difficult to get to the bar to order. However, the food arrived very quickly and was very tasty. The building has many nooks and crannies and we chose to sit away... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This well-known landmark is an amalgamation of historic buildings dating from the 15th and 18th centuries, known as a number of names, including The Crown during King Henry VIII's reign. However, eventually it was named The Royal Hop Pole when Queen Mary stayed in 1937 and gave it the official 'Royal.' Charles Dickens even mentions The Royal Hop Pole in his first novel, The Pickwick Papers. Other interesting information and pictures are located all over the hotel, including information on how the Medieval Banqueting Hall was discovered when the hotel was recently refurbished. The Royal Hop Pole has its own beautiful garden which leads to the banks of The River; there you can see picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the Malverns. ... more   less
