My husband and I stayed overnight in this lovely hotel which has a rich history and which has been very sympathetically restored by the Wetherspoon chain. We had a beautiful spacious bedroom and the usual extras including 2 packs of very nice biscuits on the hospitality tray. Breakfast wasn't included in the room rate but we never find this an... Booked hotel as it has food to a known standard on site. A bonus was a free car park pass. The rooms were as expected in an ancient hotel but with modern day refinements. The hotel is just far enough from the abbey that the clock bells didn't keep you awake!! As you expect from Wethearspoons the staff were pleasent... More

The floors in the bar were sticky. The bedroom was average. The mattress and bed overall were very uncomfortable - £74 for a double bed and the matterss is not even firm - you turn and feel as if you are about to slide off the bed. Rediculously expensive and not the comfort factor expected. Shall not be using this... More

Lovely old hotel with quirky features, uneven floors. Helpful staff. Really clean rooms with coffee, tea making facilities and great biscuits. Room was very hot when arrived due to the weather and found window didn't open more than a couple of inches, switched on a fan provided but found it was extremely noisy and was unable to sleep with it... Can't recommend this hotel too much. Friendly reception, great room-authentic with mod cons , and Weatherspoons value for money ,it's a recipe for a great weekend. The bar staff in particular are worthy of a mention - they coped extremely well on a very busy Saturday night .

We booked a night here on the recommendation of an acquaintance, to break our journey home from Cornwall. Our room was perfectly acceptable, and had everything we needed (including iron and ironing board.) The hotel itself is great with lots of wood panelling and "wonky" floors. We spent the evening in the pub, which was buzzing! It was Saturday evening... More

The Rpyal Hop Pole is an excellent hotel and J D Wetherspoon have done an outstanding job in the sympathetic renovartion of a truly beautiful building. The mediaeval hall is astonishing and those staying in the adjacent rooms who must walk through it to get to their rooms will be amazed if they haven't heard about beforehand. Our room (105)...
