When my daughter and I arrived at the hotel we found the hotel was clean and the staff very welcoming. We then went to our room, which at first was a good size with an en suite, however, the en suite let it self down with the shower attachment as it was clogged with limescale and it would not stay in... Booked a room, which turned out to be a suite. good spacious room with fantastic king size bed. great nights sleep. bathroom was good, and bath was nice. all it could have done with was a little less of a maze to find the room, but i am assuming that is the building age not the hotels problem. Only bad... More

In need of a hotel near to Basingstoke Hospital whilst visiting family we made a booking and stayed over night during April . On arrival the reception. & staff where very helpful and assisted in booking us taxis to and from the hotel to the hospital and could not have been more proactive. The lift we took to room 34... Part of this hotel is 500 years old, but you wouldn't know it. Well located. Large shopping centre (Debenham's, Burger King, dollar store, and lots of boutiques) across the a parking lot to the north. Also lots of restaurants along the adjacent streets. Front desk staff was very helpful with directions to attractions. Free on-site parking.

This is a hotel I visited a few times in the eighties and I was really disappointed to find the accommodation, aside from some repainting and new soft furnishings, is really fundamentally the same. I always feel the give-away is bathrooms and lifts, as they are expensive to refurbish or replace and both were worn out and very tired. Front... More

This place should be renamed 'The White Elephant'. A wonderful former coaching inn, perfectly situated in the centre of Basingsoke, it has been allowed to go badly to seed. It has no identity, lacklustre decor, an unimaginative menu, the restaurant is dull and uninspiring (look at the 'art' on the walls!), and the staff are unhelpful and uninterested in the... More

Me and my husband stayed here before, so we thought we knew the hotel well . We were wrong it has gone down hill a lot since our last visit in 2012. It seems to have changed to cater for seminars and corporate functions rather than the personal visitor. Our room was ready for us at 10.30 which we were... More

On arrival staff were not sure if my room was ready or not and I was left in reception for a good 20 minutes waiting for them to find out - it was a bit chaotic and the staff really didn't seem to care - 'Fawlty Towers' springs to mind!. The room was not clean and the bathroom smelt of... More

The table was laid out beautiful. I've not been in the red lion for a long time and I will definitely be going back again soon. Good quality... More
