Nothing fundamentally wrong with this hotel which is centrally located just off the main High Street and a short walk from Festival Place. The hotel has an attractive facade onto the High Street but most of the accommodation is in a modern extension at the back. Not the most attractive views but the rooms are reasonably comfortable and warm. The... More

I suffered 21 years in Basingstoke...man and boy... And in it's day the Red Lion was a very swish place. Too up market for the likes of me. So staying there was going to be interesting. The outside from the car park has never been attractive but the frontage makes up for that. The receptionist was very polite and there... More

Stayed for a week in the Red lion whilst attending a training course nearby. I was staying in room 1 which was a decent size with double bed (very spongy, I prefer firmer) desk, LCD freeview TV & en-suite. The shower was hot & good flow but you had to hold the shower head in one hand as it would... More

went in to make a booking. Explained that I had parked in the car park and didn't want to get a parking ticket as per the 35!!!!! notices in the car park. They said not to worry you wont get a ticket. Just received a parking ticket for £100!!! Called Lorraine - the manager - she was not interested at... More

We went there, four of us, at lunch time and partook of the fixed price £10 for two course menu. Two of us had good portions of whitebait and one homemade soup ; the fourth declined a starter. For mains two had the pasta, one had sausage and mash and I had the fish and chips. All satisfactory enough except... More

Quite difficult to find but once there an excellent location. Comfy room, bed a bit soft and the shower a bit weak. The worst thing was the wifi which was so slow!! The staff though are excellent and very helpful. I didn't eat in the hotel as there was an excellent Chinese at the back of the hotel with a... More

I've stayed here for one night for the last three years after our work Christmas party. The location is great, a short walk from the bus station to check in and to the train station the next morning. This year I had a single room. The room was a good size and fairly recently redecorated by the looks of it.... More

I've been meaning to write this review for a while. We used the hotel for our post-wedding-after-party. Throughout the process the staff were extremely helpful and provided the service and space for exactly what we wanted - an unpretentious fun party. We also stayed overnight. The room was very comfortable, service was excellent and the full English breakfast was fuller... More

We booked here as we was visiting family and also we wanted to be in the town. The hotel was lovely and staff was friendly and easy to talk too. Great location for the town center and restaurants. The cooked breakfast was lovely and good selection too. The only negative thing i found was the room was really hot at... More
