I stayed at the Madison Hotel for one night. To be frank, that was enough. The whole place echoes with what must have been a pleasant hotel, but is suffering due to a real lack of investment. The decor is really tatty. The bed was past it's best. The bathroom is overdue a refurb. Meal and breakfast were OK, but... More

I do apologise that you were in one of the older style room. Brook hotels have recently taken over the running of the Madison Hotel and have an improvement plan in place. Presently we have 45 refurbished rooms. We will not be completely refurbishing the rest of the rooms yet as this is obviously very expensive and of course we are... More

Very pleasant room, let down by Fawlty Towers experience in the restaurant (and yes, I really had ordered the duck!!!) which was the worst hotel restaurant experience I have ever had (aged 53 and staying in hotels all over Europe very regularly). Sleep there, yes, eat there at your peril!! More

Once upon a time, someone must have cared about this hotel. The literature emphasises a commitment to service and putting the customer first. Sadly, this is not interpreted into reality as staff are few and the management disorganised, rude and the entire place shabby and poorly maintained. One redeeming area is the restaurant food which although presented on a grubby... More

We were attending an event on the Friday night in the area, so booked in here for convenience, just bed and breakfast. The room was on the road side but well set back, we needed the window open all night as it was hot but weren't particularly disturbed by the traffic. The room was comfortable, clean and fairly spacious. The... More

A lot of residents appeared to be having trouble gaining entry into their rooms when we first arrived. Although the manager was very helpful. We had no trouble changing our room from a double to a twin, the reception was very helpful. Room was good, luckily we where at the front of the hotel as some residents at the back... More

We stayed here part of a coach holiday. The check in was quick and organised. The staff were helpful. The room was spacious, as a single traveller I got a room with a double bed. The place was clean updated and impressive. There was limited choice for vegetarians at dinner time and the food was basic with small portions. However... More

We stayed at the Madison as part of a party of 50 passengers on a short-break coach trip. The hotel is situated next to a busy road. We were allocated a room right at the rear of the hotel and also had the noise of fast trains from the railway line. As there is no air-conditioning, we had to have... More

We had our wedding reception here on July 23rd, it was a fantastic day. Attention to detail and friendiness & helpfulness of staff was fantastic. Food was beautifully presented and very tasty. Food served hot and in a timely, effecient and friendly manner. Function room was the perfect size for our wedding party of 50 and the room has windows... More

Stayed 3 nights (Fri-Sun). When I arrived, there was a wedding party in progress but they dispersed before dark and all three nights were peaceful and quiet. Good king-size bed. Very clean well-appointed room. Needed an extension cord for my CPAP machine. It was delivered to my room in under three minutes. The staff were all very friendly and courteous.... More

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights with a coach tour firm. Most things were good with a couple of exceptions. Firstly we could not get our shower to run hot. Reported to reception but no improvement. However if we were not operating the shower properly instructions for it's use would have been helpful. On the last noght the... More
