We needed a stopover after a wedding on the way back from Bristol to London and Swindon seemed to fit the bill. The Great Western Hotel is above the pub - not surprising since it was Arkell Brewery's first foray into this kind of hospitality in the Victorian age. Just across the road from the station, the location is very... More

Stayed at the Great Western for one night and had no hassles at all. In comparison to some of the other reviews I found the hotel to be satisfactory, good value for money and in an excellent location right opposite the railway station which suited my needs. The décor within the hotel has seen better days but was clean enough.... More

Dreadful place. The awful experience started in the hotel's private car park, which had prominent Pay & Display signs, with dire warnings of huge penalties if you failed to display a ticket. I paid £8 to park for my overnight stay. On checking in (at the bar, they don't have a reception desk), I was told I didn't have to... More

Next door to railway station and a few minutes away from bus station with the town centre only five minutes walk away. This hotel has pleasant rooms and friendly staff, well worth a short stay if visiting Swindon.

I have stayed in many hostels over the past few years and i love them! Staying in this hotel we expected the standard to be higher than the usual accommodation we stay in however we could not have been more wrong! This is possibly one of the worst places i have EVER stayed!! It was so dirty that it was... More

Apparently customer service is less important than making sure the music is ok. How dated and unprofessional. Remember where the money comes in when the rooms aren't full. Wont be going back. Shoddy management.

Ofe been going to the gw for years but never again. The service is shocking, has been for a couple of months. When I suggested that the manager should spend more time dealing with the queue of customers and less time on his laptop, I was told that it was none of my business and that "we dont care what... I recently stayed at this hotel for one night and it was an awful experience. After checking in at the bar, the bar man, who was the only member of staff we saw just told us the way to our room and didn't bother showing us. He didn't tell us anything about checking out or the breakfast times. After checking... More

This pub offers good value accommodation (I paid £45 single ensuite including breakfast). Upside: cheap, close to station, good beer downstairs, hearty breakfast, free wifi Downside: rough round the edges, small TV, not very hot water Overall I would stay here again since it offers excellent value for money.

I stayed one night for business and was very disappointed. To check in I had to go to the bar, not nice as a woman staying on her own to have to book in at the bar. Although I have to say the staff were very pleasant. The bar area looks newly refurbished but is let down by the accommodation.... More
