Unfortunately for us, we arrived for lunch at the same time as a walking group. The staff warned us there would be a wait of at least 20 minutes but that turned out to be nearly 45 minutes. We were offered complimentary bar snacks while we waited. When the food finally arrived it was hot and very good. When the... More

Sunday lunch at the Rose & Crown was delightful. The service was attentive without being over-bearing, but the real treat was the fabulous roast beef, thinly carved and pink in the middle. Yorkshire puds were light and airy and roast potatoes just crispy without being hard. Delicious gravy and perfectly cooked carrots. The roast pork was equally delightful with crackling... More

My wife and I booked the R&C and did an autumnal walk on the Ridgeway starting from the pub. Got the X47 Ridgeway Explorer bus back from Lettcombe Bassett right back to the pub. Got back to a lovely snug bar with fire and very nice restaurant area. Room (7) was great; clean and spacious with enormous bathroom. Dinner in... More

My wife and i stayed here over Halloween weekend. There was a live band and a fancy dress competition on. The host did phone me a week earlier to let me know there would be live music and would this be OK. The hotel was quite busy downstairs which we enjoyed. The hotel and room was lovely and nicely decorated.... More

Sorry for the delayed review. We visited in September, (a couple of months ago), and had Sunday lunch. I keep meaning to do a review to say how much we enjoyed the food and the service. We'd thoroughly recommend it and the free papers to read are a nice touch also.

We arrived early on a Monday evening and were warmly welcomed by Danny. We checked into our lovely room (Room 7) - a large, double aspect room with comfy bed and a good selection of complimentary refreshments, a dressing room and a large, attractive bathroom with a huge shower! We booked in for dinner and were very impressed with the... More

We were walking the Ridgeway and booked this for the overnight portion of our trip. About half a mile from the trail, the location is excellent, in the middle of a charming town, with good views. Our welcome was warm and personal and the look of the place was neat, fresh paint, with personality and character. The Rose and Crown... More

We booked for a meal on a summers evening. When we arrived and had a drink we were told there would be a 15 minute wait which we happily accepted. Unfortunately it extended to 40 minutes before our starters arrived. The staff were apologetic and the food was good, particularly the fish and chips Overall it was a good experience... More

Pub, excellent. Nice mix of old world furniture and spacious modern design, tasty local ales and high quality food, beautifully presented. Top class, friendly service. Bed for the night, fine. The mattress in my room (8) was extremely uncomfortable but otherwise had all the facilities you would expect and was surprisingly quiet - even with the window wide open, I... More
