Luxury in the English Midlands The Peacock at Rowsley is a small luxury hotel located in the famous Peak District in the heart of England, and conveniently close to the major towns of Chesterfield, Sheffield, Manchester, Nottingham and Derby. Recently acquired by Lord Edward Manners, owner of nearby Haddon Hall, the hotel has been refurbished throughout and styled by award winning designer India Mahdavi. Our 16 comfortable en suite bedrooms are luxuriously appointed with antique furniture, crisp white sheets and the finest fabrics sourced from London, Paris, New York and Milan. Head Chef, Matthew Rushton, was trained by Gordon Ramsay and has designed tantalising menus for our restaurant and bar, using wherever possible locally sourced ingredients. The Peacock is famed for its seven miles of fly fishing on the Rivers Wye and Derwent where anglers come from all over the world to fish for rare wild rainbow trout and our unique strain of brown trout. We are also ideally located for visiting nearby Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House. We aim to provide a relaxed and comfortable experience whether you are coming for a weekend in the country, a special occasion, or just to eat and drink. We very much look forward to welcoming you to The Peacock. Ian and Jenni more » « less

I took my wife to the Peacock to celebrate her birthday, booking a double room at a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast rate of £225 with Laura on reception. When we arrived, service was efficient, the room was lovely, and the evening meal in the restaurant was outstanding. We had a full cooked breakfast the following morning, which, again was delicious,... more

We stayed at the Peacock two years ago, it was such a wonderful hotel. We found the hotel tastefully decorated, our room was gorgeous, location was superb (we did a pretty walk to Chatsworth House from the hotel) and the staff were very friendly and professional. We stayed at the hotel for our 1st year wedding anniversary, when we arrived... more

We have just returned from a wonderful week end in Derbyshire. Having read the reviews on the Peacock at Rowsley we were slightly apprehensive. I can report that the Hotel is wonderfully managed, clean, stylish, impeccable service, fabulous cuisine. Room 1 overlooks the garden, the bathroom has been refurbished, no expense spared, veined carrara marble, power shower.Yes it is expensive... more

I had booked a stay at the Peacock for my boyfriend's birthday. The welcome was good and the room was very nicely decorated, our room was situated at the back of the hotel looking onto the gardens which I was recommened when I phoned to book. The setting is relaxed and has excellent views. I agree with a recent reviewer... more

Our second stay at the Peacock. The Peacock is a lovely hotel, a mix of old and new, all tastefully done. Those who think IKEA just don't get it, the match of traditional with modern, the lighting make the place. Good weekend packages with dinner make good value, will always look forward to going back. Go to Haddon Hall nearby,... more

We stayed at The Peacock for one night on Saturday 3rd April 2008. I think we were a little apprehensive after seeing some of the more negative reviews on Tripadvisor, but weren't disappointed, just felt overall we expected a little more for the money. We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist, and checked us in very quickly, also showed... more

Paying almost £200 for a double room, we expected some level of luxury, but we couldn't find it anywhere. The room was listed as a large double, but was very small. Bathroom tiny and not at all luxurious or stylish, clean but basic. We arrived very late, the lights were not working and the room was freezing. The large radiator... more

Quaint hotel which has very nice rooms with a modern twist - was taken as a surprise for my b'day and felt I had been pampered. Wine list was v good and food tasty but portions far too small for the price. Nice touches like ipod docking station, dvd with good selection of films at reception to borrow. more

The Peacock describes itself on its website as a “luxury hotel”, and “luxuriously appointed”. Nothing could be further from the truth. On arrival we found the hotel to be very conveniently situated with a perfectly adequate car park at the rear next to a pretty little garden. Before entering we checked the dinner menu by the door – main courses... more

What a fantastic stay we had here. Only managed one night but we were greeting warmly on arrival at lunchtime - enjoyed a nice pub lunch in the bar area and then checked in. Rooms were delightful, the furniture was in keeping with the age of the building but all amenities were included and the room was nice and spacious.... more
