A one night stay on the hottest day so far of 2015. I was allocated a ground floor room which had air conditioning that resembled a pretty poor fan with no cooling effect. Beginning to lose weight from perspiration I asked to be moved. I got a first floor room which was little better but at least I could open... More

Stayed on a Saturday night as was attending a friends birthday party nearby. Staff were all great and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere to the hotel. I'd forgotten Sellotape to wrap my friends present so I was eternally grateful when reception willingly lent me theirs! Had drinks in the bar before and after going to the party and found... More

Booked in advance for 6 adults - 1 lactose free. When we arrived they hadn't provided lactose free afternoon tea...they were offered a plate of sandwiches instead! The food was average, cakes were clearly bought in & not home made. The staff were all stood around not knowing what to do, slightly awkward. Nice but not value for money, considering.... More

Afternoon Tea was booked for a large group of 15 and we were seated in a separate room off the main restaurant upstairs. Whilst staff were friendly, overall service was somewhat lacking. Flasks of tea and coffee were brought with no extra hot water and barely enough milk, sandwiches and cakes were produced on large slate platters which we had... More

Stay here as Derby was fairly central to our group of friend and we wanted a private dining room. Hotel was very clean with classic decor. Room was also clean, with more modern decor, albeit really quite small. Staff were accommodating and attentive although did seen to get in a bit of a muddle regarding the allocation of drinks to... We booked the afternoon tea as a special treat after reading good reviews. The staff were very sweet however the tea itself wasn't great. The tops of the ham sandwiches were dry, as if they'd been sitting out for a while, the scones were tiny and overcooked which meant they were very dry inside and there was only one each.... More

Beautiful grand staircase and stunning room to have a girlie afternoon tea in. Food and service not so stunning. We were welcomed very warmly though and after being seated were asked what our choice of tea would be. The food was served and then we were ignored for the rest of the stay. No tea top up (teabag!!) no how... More

Having purchased an Amazon local voucher , I decided to visit and catch up with an old friend as a treat and gossip over an afternoon tea on a Sunday afternoon. The building has all the trimmings of a classic grand hotel with its stained glass windows and marble staircase, a great entrance. The tea room was smart and lovely... More
