Just returned from a short break in Gloucester. The New Inn was perfect for us, it was close to the Cathedral and The Quays Complex. This lovely old Inn is pretty amazing, loads of history. We had a good double room, comfortable bed. Very clean. The staff at The New Inn are all very helpful = couldn't do enough for... More

We were received with surprise although we had booked. We were told immediately that there was no soup or ale pie and that there were no specials on the board. We ordered our drinks while we perused a fairly short menu. We all ordered the fish cakes to start with. When they arrived it turned out to be one fish... More

Staying here was like stepping back in time. The inn is 700 years old, complete with huge black timber beams. Has a central courtyard with flowers hanging from walls. Property is in great condition. the meals were large and reasonably priced, breakfast included in room rate.

We stayed in the oak suite which had a very comfortable four poster bed. But overlooked the courtyard and therefore noisy! We were warned when we checked in though and it was the weekend and to add to that the Saturday was Gloucester day with the celebrations! Breakfast quite good as was our evening meal. We tried the Carvery for... More

Thank you for your comments. Gloucester Day is the busiest day of the year and as such very noisy. We are proud to be a music venue and offer a wide variety of entertainment at the weekends. More

My husband was on business and I was a tourist. Lovely historical town and hotel and lots of charm. Rooms clean but dated and wardrobe totally on slant even lost items down the back of the wardrobe and no handles on the door which was odd. If you had breakfast before 8.00am your breakfast was of basic quality after 8.00... More

Really baffled by this one! Yes it's a 500+ year old building and the fllors slant, that's part of the attraction. Puzzeld by the comments about a wardrobe without door handles so I walked around the hotel and couldn't find it. Breakfast during the week is from 7-9am. Don't understand the comment about a basic breakfast before 7am - we... More

Stayed with friends recently and found this hotel on-line and it was great to find the location in the heart of Gloucester City with close proximity to the Quay and such an oldie-worldly charm with very clean and well equipped rooms and great value. The downside was the service which was cold and unhelpful where on returning from a night... More

Like many hotels our company policy is payment on arrival - it's not unusual and certainly not unfriendly or untrusting. Once the bar is closed for the night and the tills cashed off we do not serve drinks. More

There's something about this hotel that forgives the negatives, as you walk through Gloucester town you wonder where the hell you are going, then as you turn into the courtyard there's a lovely surprise. it's charming and it's like stepping into a bit of history. The staff are pleasant and the breakfast was reasonable, there's not much choice in the... More

Thank you very much for your review. The positives are noted and gratefully received. On the negatives, we have a plumber booked to fix the tap and the electrician should be here next week. Cobwebs - the bane of my life! In a 500+ year old buildi9ng they appear daily but we will give them a bit more attention. Thanks... More

Stayed in the New Inn overnight August 2014, two adults in twin room as requested. Although this was a business trip, we couldent help but appreciate the olde world character of this Hotel. The cost of stay was £59 including breakfeast. The bedroom itself was clean and well presented. Coffee and tea making facilities catered for, the bathroom had plenty... More

Thank you for your comments. The hotel is scheduled for some redecoration which we await. Breakfast cannot be cold - it is cooked fresh and offered on a hot carvery unit with heat lamps above. All food is temperature checked and results recorded. I double checked today and after 30 minutes on display the food was over 70C. More

If you're looking for a hotel with character, history and great food then the New Inn is perfect for a value-for-money stay in the centre of Gloucester. I stayed there with my family and on arrival the staff were friendly and helpful. We had two rooms, both were very distinctive and a far cry from the universally identical modern hotels.... More

Stayed at the New Inn the last Friday of August 14. Had been apprehensive after reading some of the reviews on here. Now I have stayed my concerns have proven unfounded and wonder what the negative reviews have been talking about. We stayed in the Lady Grey Suite (201) The room was clean, large with bath/shower room and four poster... More
