We spent a week in Middlesmoor on holiday & visited the Crown Hotel for food. Food was good although there was a limited menu and the specials board never changed all week (apart from items being crossed off). Unfortunately the puddings weren't home made and we thought they were pricey for what they were. The staff and locals were very... More

Delicious food and a warm welcome from landlord (a lovely eccentric character!) and waiting staff. Would highly recommend. Not a huge place so doubt they can cater for huge groups of people. A lovely retreat from camping on a very wet evening.

My family and walked to the pub while camping at Studfold Farm. We found the pub shut and another family sat outside. We sat and chatted and they said they thought it opened at 6.00. The landlord came out and told us we'd have a long wait because he didn't open till 7.00. He told us that he was fully... More

Good quality, plentiful, evening meal. Very welcome after a days walking. Good breakfast to set us up for the next day. Characterful Landlord with good dry Yorkshire sense of humour, all other staff friendly and efficient. En suite room, simple but adequate. Only warning, just soap in room, so we needed to carry shampoo and shower gel, for this one... More

If I could score 0 I would have, just been in here with a family of 9 to eat, chap came from behind the bar and asked if we were eating, when we replied yes there was a sharp answer back saying no. He then walked back to serving behind the bar.

Called in again whilst camping in lofthouse. The landlord is fab as are his kitchen and wait staff. I had a lamb shank dinner which was amazing, it was hot and so so fresh. My husband had the steak pie which we were reliably informed by chef had just come out of the oven. This pub is a definite must... More

Stopped here for sandwiches and a drink. There were 11 of us in total so a it of a rush for them. Landlord a bit of a character but very friendly. Good sandwiches and service. Nice country pub used by locals as well as visitors. Dog friendly.

One of my favourite walking destinations, cracking pint of goose eye with gammon steak, eggs, chips and peas, bring it on! Very generous portion cooked to perfection. My pale had a lamb shank with red wine gravy chips and peas and did not stop saying how good it was! perhaps the excellent beer loosened his usually "quiet manner" ! one of... More

The Crown Hotel in Middlesmoor is not posh. It's a proper Dales pub with rooms. We didn't stay there - but a quick pint mid-walk turned into several plus a hearty lunch. The food is simple but wholesome; the local banter is just priceless and Malcolm, the legendary landlord is perfect material for a television sit com. He's a real... More
