O.k. so some of the paintwork needing sprucing up a bit and the general decor could do with a bit of renovation, but all in all we had an enjoyable stay at this hotel. The reception area and lounge were really comfortable with lots of big couches and a chap playing the piano. The room we stayed in was spacious... more

This Hotel should be great, it’s quirky, quaint and central. Sadly when I stayed there for 3 nights the hot water varied between tepid and luke warm! I was repeatedly promised that the boiler would be fixed, sadly it didn’t happen during my stay. In my room there was a large damps spot on one of the walls and other... more

This rates as one of the poorest hotels I've stayed in. The owners have let it become tired and worn out, and have clearly not spent any money on upgrading, or maintaining it. NO hot water, small poorly furnished room in need of a complete makeover, air conditioning units outside my window humming all night, 2.5" gap under the door.... more

The staff were polite and friendly. The hotel, a once grand place but now needs refurbishing, which does appear to have started. The room was comfortable and warm, the bathroom an experience. The shower switched from boiling hot to freezing cold just as you thought you'd got the temperature right, good if you like to play 'shower roulette'! When the... more

This was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. The bedroom had lovely views of the fire escape. the bed must have been used by a herd of elephants as a trampoline, peeling wallpaper, unkempt, lightshades hanging off fittings. Could not find tea/coffee making facilities initially (then found out they hide them in the drawer). Blankets on bed im... more

unless you don't mind a shabby dirty place. All the bad comments are true and I don't know how anyone can say good things about it especially as it's supposed to be 3 star.Harrowgate is a beautiful town and I would have paid extra for alternative accomodation.Visit at your peril. I have given 1 rating because you have to put something... more

I must say that the St George Hotel has character and very friendly staff. Even though the hotel is a bit dated it did offer very good food and the dining room sort of takes a person back to the 30's. Our stay was a very pleasant one and the offer of a gym and pool also made it that... more

Dated decor, peeling wallpaper and workmen on scaffolding looking into the room (though trying not to, to be fair to them), spacious room, pretty good bed and a decent if clinical bathroom, reasonable food, indifferent staff, good location, an all round feel of being back in about 1982, mostly NOT in a good way. The hotel has potential, but it... more

The hotel was in need of a major face lift; there was work going on but so much was needed to be done that it could take ten years! There was a musty old smell in reception on arrival and I didn't see a guest under 65! English was a major problem for most of the staff who did not... more

A hotel recently acquired by Shearings. Arrived to find hotel swathed in Scaffolding and some areas of the car park cordoned off, so a little off putting to start with. Walk into the hotel from the car park was like entering a slum property and inside, although spacious, looked rather shabby and in need of attention. The bedroom, too was... more
