BEWARE THIEVES ABOUT!!! I recently spent a weekend at The Old Swan Hotel along with friends. Upon attending breakfast, we locked our hotel room locked, keeping the key in our possession. We returned to our room within 45 minutes, the door was still locked, however, house keeping had attended and cleaned the room. We immediately found that £150 had been... more

We stayed here on a sat and sun night for a wedding. The first thing to say is that the wedding was fantastic and this place is an excellent venue for such an occasion. HOWEVER, Rooms: Dated .... windows that do not shut .... floors that creak ..... small beds ...... toilets that do not flush! Breakfast: Was the worst... more

We stayed one Saturday night, booked the day before via Hotels.com. Immediate impression is of a large stylish hotel in extensive grounds, about 100m from Pumproom Museum and the municipal gardens. Plenty of (free) parking space. Inside, the hotel retains its period charm. A wedding was planned for that day and the garden room was attractively set out for the... more

It was all going well until we ordered 2 sets of "ROASTED VEGETABLES" at dinner - expecting maybe chargrilled aubergines, peppers, maybe potatoes. We ordered 2 portions and 1 portion of "french fried Potatoes". We got a saucer each with what looked like a spoonful of Asda packet diced vegetales that had been microwaved. No sign of roasting - taseless... more

Stayed at The Old Swan last weekend for a wedding. The wedding party itself was lovely and hats off to The Old Swan (and the couple) for organising - but the hotel itself was terrible and not worthy of a visit. Prior to our stay I had emailed the hotel to request a nice modernised room. Upon arrival, a very... more

We dined at this hotel for our 30th Wedding Anniversary gift from friends and the whole evening was like something out of Fawlty Towers. The maitre'd was dithering about like a headless chicken, the young waiter was surly and unhelpful - and the older waiter seemed to be running everywhere and doing nothing. The food was 'tired' - the wine... more

Stayed here for one night. It was freezing outside but the room was like a furnace, hot hot hot. Small double bed. The smallest bathroom I've ever seen. No net curtains so people can look in to your room. The whole room looked like something from the 1970's; Old and tired. When we complained to the receptionist / manager at... more

Four Stars to not do this hotel justice - i would place this more towards 4* superior We have visited north yorks many times and love harrogate, I usually stay at the Hotel Du Vin but I can honestly say this place has the edge on it. The service and food are both outstanding and the hotel has real charm... more

I've stayed at this hotel twice - once on business and once for a wedding. If you take a single room, be warned that it'll be tiny and probably overlooking the roof tops rather than the gardens. The double room we had the second time was far nicer. You have to be careful of the charges though when booking for... more

Have just returned from a 3 day break at the Macdonald Old Swan Hotel, Harrogate. We booked it with some reservations after looking at some of the mixed reviews (although more recent reviews showed that it had improved). Macdonald's certainly have brought it up to standard since aquiring it a few years ago. (previous reviews cited rude indifferent staff, poor... more
