Booked 3 nights by telephone & asked to be upgraded to a superior room, thinking we would get extras like robes & slippers & other goodies like we did 2 years earlier. Was disappointed to find no extras as we had booked a superior room only. The windows were wood & rotting & we could see daylight through holes in the framework.We... Usually stay at the Cairn whilst attending the yearly trade exhibition, mainly because of the location and parking. Since last year the main area and stairs have been refurbished but the corridors are very dated. Luckily for me I have never had a bad room. Bathrooms always very clean, bedroom decor traditional and dated but spotless.(I always check the linen)... More

The whole thing has had its day. No money spent since it was bought from the receivers 20 years ago. Bed I am writing from is 3/4 and also 20 years old. Needs converting to elderly apartments or similar.

We have been to the Cairn quite a few times now, but this time for a Dinner and Dance, the Big Band Evening. We went with my parents. What a fabulous night! The Band were very good, food superb, staff couldn't be faulted. We stayed overnight, had breakfast, really good, plenty of choice and food piping hot. Must mention Ruth... More

I booked a night here for myself and my husband on our road back from a short stay in Lincoln. The reason I booked here was I had never been to Harrogate, my husband had when he worked in the hotel 18 years ago, doing up the rooms, lights, sockets, etc. and hadn't been back. Well I think the deja... More

My room(346) was on the third floor of the building literally in the loft space, with a small window that required standing on the bed to open the curtains or even to open the window by a few inches. As a consequence the room was dark most of the time. Right above the bed was a large area of mould... More

This hotel had its heyday in the late nineteenth/early twentieth century and was purchased from the receivers by the Strathmore Group(present owners)in 1992.Apparently they have put a lot of money into refurbishment which is still ongoing. Our room was large and had been moderrnised to a good standard. The service in the hotel was excellent and the food good.As we were on... We stay at the cairns every year for the Crawford porter hockey tournament, the hotel is always clean and staff are friendly. They cater for our team as well as the people who are there for ballroom dancing. The staff are always attentive even with our singing ! I would recommend this hotel as an excellent location to explore Harrogate... More

I stayed in this hotel for one night whilst attending a conference at the International Centre. I asked for a quiet room and to be fair, room 357 is right at the top and at the end of the corridor and was indeed quiet. However, my room smelled of a mixture of ?carpet cleaner and an old musty smell, and... More

What a place, it's awful. Not one person was under 70, abysmal, felt so out of place and was very disappointed, room smelt like someone had just used the loo and the corridors smelt of paint, really really disappointed in the whole place, not worth £144 a nice. Would prefer a travel lodge
