We stayed here for a single night on a trip across Southern Ireland, and wished we were staying longer. The room was rather tired and a little bit shabby, but very comfortable, and the views across the river to Waterford were great. The gardens were also lovely. Food was excellent, both the evening meal and breakfast the next day, and... More

We visited here after a previous poor experience and I must say this more than made up for that. Upon arrival we were shown to our seats with rose petals and glasses of champagne waiting for us. We then proceeded to dine on scrumptious cakes, gorgeous sandwiches and more. Our server was delightful, very knowledgable without being overly intrusive. 2... More

Definitely not a 4 star hotel. Room was very hot with no air con. Bathroom had mould even around the basin taps which I was tempted to scrub clean. Bar fridge didn't work so I couldn't chill my next day's water. No help from reception staff to help this single elderly lady traveller to get her luggage upstairs to her... More

Reception staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was spacious but 3 of the lights weren't working so it was rather dark. However it was clean and comfortable. Good sized bathroom. Cooked breakfast was poor quality but there was a good selection of fruit, pastries and breads.

The Athenaeum Hotel was a most relaxing hotel to stay at.It was a little hard to find and away from the main centre but with a car that is no problem. It's a stately old home with only about 25 rooms all overlooking lovely grounds.Breakfast was outstanding and the staff were most helpful.Parking is next the the main entrance and whilst... This was our first night in Ireland. The hotel is a little hard to find but well worth it. Very clean and quiet. They have a wonderful restaurant onsite with a beautiful view of their property, and you can see the river and historic town through the trees. The only negative - we like to walk from our hotel to... More

We came here for a weekend with our 5month old, thinking we would have to hide the baby! But, this place was so nice and they were very accommodating for the baby, travel cot was provided and there was no problem in the restaurant, and the food was divine! Its not smack bang in town but nor too far and... More

Positives - good location right across the river from the city square, great dinner food, staff resolved an issue I had quickly. Negatives - many of the hallways and our original room smelled like cigarette smoke, mixed drinks are very light, a party was going on one night so it was very loud and the hotel did not let me... 2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2015

I stayed here in May 2015 and was very dissapointed in our room. In a 4 star hotel, I expect the furnishings to be up to date and everything in the room to be in working order. The bathroom window was about to fall off, no toilet paper holder, the guest information book was literally falling apart. There is no... More

Thus place looks modest in the pics but is really so charming and wonderful in reality. The restaurant on the grounds is superb both for a lucious dinner as well as the included breakfast. The waitress looks after you like you are her most precious relationship. The room was so charming and lovely. The entire staff just as nice as... More
